And thus, set tax to 100% in the cheap selling town to avoid abuse from other players :)

100% is max. That's at 50km though. Anything past is wasted.
Well, it takes twice as much time to travel 50 km than 25 km, so theoretically you could lead two caravans at 25 km instead of one caravan at 50 km.
I'm not sure about the difference in profit between 25- and 50-km trade routes though. If the function is 2nd order or similar, than 50 km is your choice. If it's linear, I'd go for 2x25 km.

Just did a test run.
Distance: 27km
Final price:50(21 base)

Already made...well lets just say I'm quite wealthy by myself compared to taking two villages worth of money.

So...Long runs will probably be a huge bonus(or if it was this run it'd probably have been close to 75 per good.) Still wish we could find the distance bonus formula, but I like my 3-4 trade routes I have already created.

you can get 300% distance bonus from around 45km and after that it doesn't go up very quickly

max tax is 50% but it would cost you 245 production points to get it there

So best routes are around the 27kM section.(2.2x increase over base cost versus 3x at 47km)

You're right.
The formula is =IF(Distance<60,175*COS((Distance*PI()/60)-PI())+175,320+Distance/2)
so for distance = 1...50 km, bonus = 175*COS((Distance*PI()/60)-PI())+175
If you differentiate it, you'll get a function with the maximum at about 29-30 km. That's where the trade is the most profitable.
The corresponding bonus will be 165-175%.
Nerds ftw!
