Read the news message, although its google translated I think that clearly says that they were recording audiovisual material of military installations.

Who would want to be spying on Greece and why in these times? So the reason for being paranoid is convicting people of being spies? Maybe its the other way around, people are being convicted of being spies because the country is paranoid?

That said, taking photographs of military bases is pretty fucking stupid.

No, actually most of the convicted spies are VERY clearly spies (like, paid and all). A few cases are murky, sure, but definitevly not the majority.

But to answer your question: plenty of countries. Turkey is the most frequent offender as it sends spies to photograph Greek millitary installations on border islands (many of whom are disputed, mind you, and full of oil and natural gas.) as well as sending spy drones (of whom come every couple of weeks, also manned planes)

The other frequent offenders are FYROM and Bulgaria. Sometimes Albania too, but not too frequently. They are mainly interested in the Greek installations for preventing immigrants to pass.

So again, this isn't unwarranted paranoia. You might argue that it is an overeaction, but saying this is outmodded or uneeded is pretty god damn stupid.

That's what I was thinking.  Even before the economy collapse, who would be spying on Greece's military, and why?  Sounds more like a paranoid country and military proceedings, than actual catching of spies.

I think Greece can't really let this go simply because such is the nature of the law. Everybody knows many tourists make photos where they actually shouldn't. Some of them get caught, but even in very obvious cases of this-is-not-a-spy, the same rule should apply to everybody. They can't dismiss a case just based on the apparences. If they did, then it's more than probable that actual spies would get away using tourist covers. And on top of that, the jurisprudence would have horrible consequences.

Also, absolutely all countries would react the same if the same thing happened to them.

Noone takes photos or audiovisuals of military installations as spies from ANY real power. Sure some nutjobs who have saved up for a few years and bought themselves a RPG with 2 spare rockets might, but they arent going to be realistically able to cause any dmg anyway. 100% of all information a real military threat to greece could need is available by satellite, and since after the launch, the running cost of a satellite is pretty low, its THE goto method for information retrieval.

This is nothing more than small minded fascists given a little power abusing it to bully others. The game devs in question have the money to mount an actual terrorist attack, and like all others preparing for a strike, if they had any intentions of violence they would prepare using satellite imagery, ESPECIALLY devs of an ARMA game, they are probably more aware of strategic and realistic possibilities than any greek joke soldier.
