So the most used gear becomes more expensive and you get more when you sell it and the less used becomes worthless? Seems kinda reverse logic to me...
More price so you have higher repairs, so if you want it because of the looks, you will keep doing so, but if you want them because of min-maxing, optimal price and so on, you will change to a non-overpriced one.
However, why would it be dependent on the amount of looms? Some people, as myself, play with (almost) no looms, and it would not be the best option in my opinion.
I suggest counting on each round the gear chosen by players and add +1 on a spreadsheet. Then every night you choose the items that have been used within each class the most, and then decide it. That way it will change more often, as looms are fixed and do not change as much.
Maybe I am missing something in your reasoning though
