I have been wanting to make a dedicated archer build for awhile now but I just feel like they are not that great. Does anyone have any help or suggestions for it?

Well if you want to go for a lvl 30 build (if you still retire) i recommend:

18 str/21 agi

7 Weapon master
7 Athletics
6 Powerdraw
+
3 Iron flesh OR 3 Powerstrike (if you want to melee)

All WPF into archery

Equipmentwise it would be either:
Rus Bow + 2* [Bodkin] Arrows + 0SlotWeapon
or
Horn Bow + 3* [Bodkin] Arrows     OR 2* Arrows +1slot Weapon

You can use this tool to play around a little bit:

I have played as somewhat equal strength/agility and a high strength archer. I've used horn bow, yumi, rus bow, and long bow. I would recommend going for a medium to high agility build for your first generation. Until you have the hang of it, drawing your bow and firing seems like it takes forever. If you stay with horn bow or yumi, you can also try playing a horse archer for a generation if you want (you will be very ineffective until high levels, but then you can be devastating and untouchable if you play right).

For your first generation, try going 18 st / 21 agi. Go for 6 power draw, high weapons master, and at least 4 athletics. Wear light armor (there are threads that detail the penalties to aim you take for wearing armor as an archer). Spend the rest on what you want - a shield can help you fend off enemies till help arrives, a 1h and some power strike gives you at least some chance if you get cornered. Don't skimp out on archery wpf - go for 130 at the very least. 50-75 wpf in 1handed should be enough if you want to carry a backup weapon.

The most important skill to learn is surveying your team at the start of the round. Look where they are going, check the terrain, and find a spot you can provide arrow fire from. You want a vantage point (so you can shoot over instead of into your allies) and at least 1 piece of cover.

I have tried many different classes and builds. Archery was one of the harder ones to get the hang of. The skill ceiling is very high, so if you put effort into it you can be a great asset to your team.

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

Wear light armor (there are threads that detail the penalties to aim you take for wearing armor as an archer).
Yeah forgot about that one:

Taker the weight of your armorparts and add them up like:

Shoes*2
Helment*2
Handarmor*4
Bodyarmor*1

all in total the weight must be lower than 10.

18/21 with 3 ps is IMO the best for lvl 30.

Tip from me:   always take with you a melee weapon, and don't take a 3 bags of arrows with horn bow.
There are many hi agi players wich will rape you in no time if you will forget to take a melee weapon.
3 ps is enougth to kill even medium armoured players and it's better to havepossibility to kill someone in melee fight than onle few hp.
Archer forever :D

Well I prefer NOT to get into the melee and run away in time. If you play like that you should invest into 3 IF instead of 3 PS.
Also 3 Large bags of Bodkinarrows with a hornbow just makes you not give a shit about your ammo :D!

18-21, or even better, 15-24 with Horn Bow with Bodkin / Barbed and Mace is what I find most effective. Here's why:

1) Fast. You're going to duel other archers, so being fast is your lifesaver.

2) More accurate (15-24 build). Why? Well, you got 1 more MW, AND 1 less PD (PD REDUCES your effective WPF). Can headshot better, which does the MOST damage.

3) Mace is pretty fast, blunt and has 2hand animations, which make it more viable than the 1hands.

4) Bodkin for, well, tin cans. Why Barbed and not Tatars? Tatars are ugly, cost more, and have only 1 more damage, WITH 2 less arrows!

I play dedicated archer. 2slot Rusbow + 2 stacks of arrows + 0slot wep. 27/15 9PD 5WM 5ATH 147 wpf archery.
Level 31 currently. Will be 30/15 10PD 150wpf at 33 someday..

Requires a special playstyle, since you can not easily outrun the enemy, or aim as accurate as other builds.
The 0slotwep is just for blocking, and occationally kill a peasant or archer. You need to be very aware, and position yourself good.
Line up target so that you have a higher chance of hitting. And focus on larger targets like horses and groups of enemies.
You are not as fast as other archers, or infantry for that matter. So bring decent armor, focus on bodyarmor. So you can take a few swings.
Be wary about bodkins, they are so expensive, and you have limited ammo. Nothing is worse than beeing dedicated archer out of arrows.
Scavenging is a PITA. Be prepared to drop your gear and pick up a meleeweapon from the ground in a tight spot.

Prob not the most effective build, but it mimicks how I feel archery should be in the game.

Leveling archery is a pain... so maybe consider playing until level 32 before you retire for 2 loompoints with the new hall of game thing..
