I suppose you could already have Roman gear, if you use your imagination.
Mail shirt, Golden Horde helm, Splinted Greaves, board shield, short sword, and javelins. You get something at least vaguely resembling ~100 bc Romans. Especially because that Golden Horde Helmet has a decent semblance to the Montefortino model helmet.
Regardless, I do agree with your point- Seeing Lorica Segmentata, Imperial model roman helmets, etc would just annoy me greatly. And the mod has so far done a fairly decent job keeping chronological consistency in terms of the equipment. The 5th to 8th century viking stuff is really cool, but to a large extent the same "look" can already be covered by equipment that's already in the mod.
Rather, I think it would be interesting if we had some Indian/South-East Asian equipment. I think it would fill the geographical gap that the mod's equipment set currently does not fill, and they are distinct enough from the existing styles that they offer a new set of appearances players can customize their dudes with.
