Recently, I've been thinking about this some.

It has the best thrust damage of all Two-Handers, and it's rather cheap. Apart from that, it's roundly inferior to the greatswords in all other stats.

BUT! It has a special thrust animation; essentially half-swording. Similar to that of the Langes Messer.

So I wonder. Does that particularity in the thrust give it an advantage? Does it enlarge the thrust hitbox, or does it decrease its range? Does it make the thrust faster or slower? Anything else?

It's the polearm thrust animation that it uses and it makes it worse, which is why it also has 27p.

I have +3 Shortened Military Scythe, and it is great weapon. Cheap and deadly, but I recommended you 24/15 build for this weapon. I like polearm animation for this weapon, because a lot of times opponent does not expect that, and with 29 thr it is a instant death.

I tried sms, but thrust was very hard to perform 'til opponent had really short weapon.

I find that it certainly does have a psychological advantage - most people are utterly incapable of correctly judging its length and speed.

But as to all else...does the animation truly make it worse? How so?

I rather like this weapon, but it isn't by any means truly good when compared to something actually made for non peasant combat.

Its fun and cheap though.  Just slow.

With a skip the fun character, this weapon is extremely viable. (10k gold only goes so far.)

But faster? Or maybe it has an easier-to-handle hitbox? It can't be all worse!

The polearm stab is WAY shorter, same speed (I think) doesn't have an endless active animation, can't be used facehug distance any more than the 2h stab.

Yeah it is easily a great weapon for its price. Fun to use too!

polestab glances less at facehug range and is overall faster (chambers faster but releases slower than 2hander balancing out to be slightly faster if i recall), just shorter

the shortened military scythe is 90 speed which is god awful for a 2hander which is the main reason it sucks, its just clumsy to use like a flamberge without the troll factor of the flamberge.  great weapon to use on horseback though for cheap, and a good leeching/rageball weapon
