Spears are pretty nasty in pvp, with fast rolls you can just keep distance and leo ring counter hit for nasty damage. Anything thats dangerous is abuse, like in crpg.

I use leo ring and medium roll. I absolutely hate playing with huge / slow weapons, and play with a shorter weapon its all about backstab / parry fishing. I can pull of backstabs with probably a 90% success rate, but I dont like playing that way. Spear is my favorite weapon since demon souls, and I will probably use it in DS2 as well  :P

Hate having pvp matches were you get lagbackstab and what not, when I fight new players (inexperienced) players I tend to backstab them when they do the obv. lock on run. What I hate are people who obv. fish for backstabs, ugh. Also I have 30 faith for sunlight blade, but I tend not to use it cuz I don't wanna be a dick :D

I do use it if the enemy buff their weps or if I have met the guy before and I know he is a giant douche.

It usually is, but not on PC, I had some good amount of invasions there. But never met any vets. there, mostly new players. Burg, forest and township is where its active atm. Also some in blight (new players).

You can only gravelord NG+ characters iirc, so you may wanna hit level 100. And even then not many will invade you, unfortunately.. Just go dickwraith, its the best for pvp.

Also suggest following the gravelord event on reddit, lots of PvP that way. Posted it before but if you missed it:

welp, game completed

No encounter after Anor Londo and buttbuddies O&S was particularly difficult (including bosses). Bed of Chaos took a couple of tries to figure out what to do but that's that really. High defense and good stability shield means I could just tank Gwynn forever.

The dlc bosses put up quite a nasty fight, if you feel like trying that out.

How many hours did it take to finish?

30 hours, but I didn't waste my time trying to loot every dead body, neither did I go to Great Hollow and beyond.

Did you play the DLC? The bosses there are pretty cool.

The bosses are probably the best part, especially if you've got a hang of the combat.
And how!
