Some dude on Battle last night was outnumbered 1-12.  He killed about 6 pretty valorously before being gunned down by the remaining 6 xbowmen only to be rewarded with a repair bill.

you need to phrase that better. i cant tell if you are saying that i lurk around the edge picking off afk's or if you are saying that lurking around the edge picking off afks is the way to get valour.
im pretty sure lurking around the edges and picking off afks until you are the last guy and then surviving a buncha hits is probably THE best way to get valour.

A simple test is needed, teamhit/kill around 4 or so players, stay alive until the end of the round. If you don't get valour after such heroics, something is up...

Actually hits to your shield build towards valor (along with other stuff) so a light shielder should still have a chance. You still need to be in the heavy fighting tho, not just skirmishing.

sounds like a lie to me. if i go through a round where my shield* was broken (by non-axes) and killed multiple guys at the end, i still dont get valour cause ill end up getting 1 shot eventually.

*and my shield did not break easily.
