Crossbow cav RAGE thread....

Why are they allowed to exist? They ride around the whole round and are the last ones alive every round.... WHYYYYYY DO THEY EXIST!

On a real note.... Shouldn't they have to like stop or something to reload... the way it stands they are just really OP if the guy riding them is as patient as Yoda.

Because everyone loves sitting around watching some guy leisurely ride around for 3 minutes after everyone's dead on his team until flags finally pop up. Maybe this isn't as much an issue in EU, but at least on NA Xbow cav are a near constant factor making the game slow down to a crawl.

if there is no melee archer yes they are usefull (not OP)  but if there is enemy HA or lots of foot missle they are Weak.

MOTF was fixed for HAs and HCs.

Next Mounted Xbows were(RL) the European Counter to the Horse Archers of the east. This tactic continued into the use of musket era where Crossbows were replaced with Carbines, Wheel-locks and Other light arms. This was until the Infantry Musket became more powerful than the mounted versions and Massed volleys and regimented armies replaced mob army mentality.

I understand that they existed IRL but that doesn't mean they are good for the game... They are not FUN to fight.... They ride around and shoot you in the back... You can't fight back against them until the round is almost over or unless you are ranged as well.. They just plain suck for anyone who is not Cav or Range

Indeed they existed in real life, but do you really believe that they galloped while reloading their crossbow at the same time?

16th century French mounted crossbowman ("cranequinier"). His crossbow is drawn with a rack-and-pinion "cranequin", so it can be used while riding

Source can be disputed, but it's prevelant enough in those old school books that its true. I also read it in another book for a pure history simulation game as well. To bad I can't remember that link.

Can't say if they TRULY reloaded while moving, but they clearly could on horseback.

Okay Anders you can say that but do you think IRL these guys were riding full gallop and reloading??? Do you think when a guy had a shield they just casually pointed there crossbow at him so he couldnt attack, then rode him over, and then quickly spun and fired before he could block???? NO

Do you think people could jump with full plate on? That people used 2h in such large quantities over histories most dominant weapon, the spear? Or that people didn't use shields? How about the fact that the Xbow was singularly the most powerful weapon on the battlefield, with minimal training, and was even banned by the Pope?

Yes, go with your stupid RL argument about HX and I'll shove a hundred more back at you. It's a GAME and if you want RL then do it yourself in real life, or build a damn time machine. RL stays in RL. Game is not RL.

But he is french, he doesnt have to reload his crossbow, he shoots that one bolt then gallops away from the fight?
