Horse-free server

Yesterday I started a new char. (very interesting)

I played on the uptolevel20 server. I cant remember when I had so much fun in crpg. Hm. Maybe on Pecores server when I had my heavy plated charger and killed 47 enemies in a single round.

When I am thinking about it, yesterday, I had fun for two reasons:

1) no level 35 all masterwork unlimited cash tanks that can take 17 hits and kill in one lucky strike

2) (almost) no horses

1) is a problem that is part of the game because 'grind' is part of skill

on 2), horsemen kill the fun for everyone who is not on a horse. They turn the battle in something static for infantry - hide and camp, or get backstabbed.
Without horses, infantry lines would clash together (with some ranged support), what is more fun (imo).

There is one awesome weapon against Lancers or 1h Cav:
Battle awareness  You wont get backstabbed by cav
Battle awareness + any polearm longer than awlpike  You actually kill the Ponys

eu5 is awesome. But I think its mainly the equipment restriction. If you go cav, you can only use very low tier horses which are very vulnerable against archers/xbow.
It really is fun because there are no uber builds in there... the problem is that constantly respeccing to be able to stay on this server does not bring looms... otherwise its the server which is most fun

Awlpike is fine against cav if you have decent ath (5 and above with light armor, 6 and above with medium armor).

I agree that EU_5 is incredible fun to play, but I am not convinced thats because of no horses.

So how about level 20 STF chars instead?

Usually its enough, but oberyn will get you if you use it, i rather take long awlpike ;)

Reading the game rules it says two-hand only. No ranged, not even long spears. What has that to do with battle when only one class is allowed?

When you are already in a melee fight, battle awareness doesnt help much - you have to focus on your melee opponents.
And even if you notice the cav behind you, even at 1 mph the horse can knock you down, and you are dead anyway.
Those who learn their lessons camp and hide on hills/ trees and buildings, what is really really boring (imo).
On some maps infantry is just there to feed cavalry. And I say that from the point of view as a part-time cavalry player.

Lancer charges -> inf ready to stab -> lancer steers the horse to his left as much as possible without slowing down and thrusts to his utmost right -> inf backpedals just enough to avoid lance -> moment after inf surges forward releasing chambered stab and gets horse ass or lancer's legs (instakill).

You need 6 ath if you wear medium armor to do this against most lancers (champion arabian + 7 riding). Against champion coursers you'll need more ath (I have 8 and it works like a charm), because it's all about acceleration.

Try it out and don't give up if it doesn't work for the first time. It's the only way to outreach good lancers.

Doing that, I can outreach Maganda with quarter staff thrust (armor weight: 2; ATH: 4).

Would be fun with a melee only server though (the current melee server is just for infantry, not horses).

Anyway, I agree that the level 20 server is really fun to play on.
