Harvesting season is over - retire no more : 31 and beyond

ELABORATE TITLE!

Having decided I'm most manly behind a shield I'm now ready to continue the fight until my late seventies with either one build or the other :

30                                 33

24/15                            27/15

Power Strike: 8             Power Strike: 9
Iron Flesh: 5                 Iron Flesh: 7
Athletics: 5                   Athletics: 5
Shield: 5                       Shield: 5

21/18                           24/18

Power Strike: 7             Power Strike: 8
Iron Flesh: 4                 Iron Flesh: 6
Athletics: 6                   Athletics: 6
Shield: 6                       Shield: 6

I'm a rather heavy shielder (~34 total weight) and don't mind the speed of 5 Athletics, however I've found that even on 7 Power Strike I need to abuse the speed bonus to deal any real amount of damage so my question is this : will the extra point in Athletics outweigh an additional Power Strike point once the speed bonus is factored in? Also if shields do block faster with a higher Shield skill, how big a difference should I expect between 5 and 6?

Thanks in advance!

Bjorn

there is no noticable difference between 5 and 6 athl. I would go for that 27/15 build.
There is one problem, soon there will be some changes with wm and wpf points,so maybie that builds will become usless.

Damn is this confirmed? Surely they'll do something for the players who's builds have become horribly broken, won't they? I rolled every build until now on a minimum of 5 Weapon Master, with 0 I literally can't tell the difference.

Anyway thanks for the tips, leaning towards the strength focus too. Oh on that subject, won't this extra strength increase my movement speed a little?

I think it is confirmed. I don't remember who said that, but i am shure someone will read ur topic and post quote.
You can see that there is no reason to put points in wm and there is no difference in having 111 points in 1h and 148 points in 1h.
So they are gonna probably fix this or ammount of wpf will matter more.
Ppl say that str increase ur moving speed, but i don't realy know if that is true. One thing is shure i move same in light, medium and heavy armor.

Have you tried 27 STR yet?

I feel like a gimp now with less than 24 STR and my 1h slash weapon, but once I hit 24 that 8th PS seems to really make a nice difference in killing power.

never gone up to 27 tho...

Each point of athletics increases your movement speed. There is a difference between 5 and 6 and it is very real whether you perceive it anecdotally or not.
Additionally every agility point adds movement speed, 4.5 agility roughly equals an additional athletics.
Strength supposedly ( i haven't seen this confirmed by any testing or coding but it makes sense) Lessens the burden of heavy armor, reducing the penalty to movement that it imposes. If it does do this, it doesn't do it by very much.
... and that's that for movement speed.

As for Weapon master changes? Yes they said they will do them. To make weaponmaster have a use, a reasont o take it for single-melee-proficiency users and such as there is not one currently. But when it comes, it'll come with a WPF respec. So stop worrying too much.

back on topic~
I like the 24/18 build a lot. It's boss mode.

24/15

5ath/wm/shield
8ps

works wonders. You don't need IF, you got a shield. With speedbonusabuse you 2-3hit most tincans with a mw ncs ^^

My lvl 33 build is also 24/18, but with wm instead of shield. Even with 23/18 people are complaining about how hard I hit in the duel server(although it's mostly due to hitting them in the head).

Deffo 24/18.

I've usually capped around 21 STR, have never experienced 1h 8 PS, let alone 9 PS. Think I'm going to enjoy it. I'll let you know how it is when I reach 33! :D

Thanks for the info. You say the WM changes will come with a WPF respec, how will this be of any use to me if what I need to change is the amount of WM points?

Might work out nicely for one who steers clear of the pack, but I like to lead the charge - got to soak up a few hits til my teammates catch up, then a few more as they 'try to help'. :D
I do see the virtue in this suggestion, however it's not for me. Thanks though!

Deffo 24/18.

Good to know, I'll keep this in mind!

Thanks for the answers everyone. :)

I played level 32 27/15 for a while. It was amazing in strat, and in maps that forced packed group combat.

24/18 would probably be a decent balance of stats for battle.
