The village should be open, do you have Strategus crafting ticks?  In the strat action menu it shows them in the top left corner: http://strategus.c-rpg.net/news.php

That's weird, what happens when you try to craft?  Is it showing a low crafting efficiency or something like that?

Try moving outside then coming back in and set your crafting again.
