Dammit, its going to be hard for me to not care about this ranking. I play duel because I want to improve and focus on learning things which makes me lose a lot. Now I am probably going to be all win hungry.
I too am afraid of this :(

Haha, +1 WayyyyYYyYyYyYyyyYne.

But surely you can't truly believe it would make a difference, right? GTX finds ways man. He whines about anything possible to whine over.

once he got ban by ban pool on eu4 because of his epic whine-skill
he is aragorn of whine with hes keyboard....

but back to topic

ranking is ranking and everyone want to improve that, that means no more funny duels or pure retardations on duel server,
I think we need some no ranking duels.

I agree with trying to split the duel types.  Either of the following systems would be nice

1) A tick box on your char page to say whether you are opting in or out of the duel ladder and then some sort of visual indication on the duel server like an "R" next to their name on the socreboard.

Or

2) Not sure if this is possible but it would be better imo...

Press F to offer/accept a ranked duel
Hold F to offer/accept an un-ranked duel (or press a different button)

The message that comes up will tell you which type it is.

Maybe when you chose your equipment there is a tickbox (Like the Ready to Spawn one). Which will start your ranked life.

There also needs to be a way to show what other players are Ranked. Maybe a different colour name when you look at him or something.

One thing that also scares me is... people switching to spec or quitting when they are about to lose to either save their rank or make their opponent gain nothing from the win.

@Korgoth:

If you go spec during a duel you automatically forfeit. The other guy gets a message saying "You have won a duel."

Play Rage ball ,its a great place to learn how to fight since it's a bit like TDM, but people must focus on killing / ball same time

Indeed, Rage Ball and Siege are both good training grounds, however only in duel:

- Do you not have to worry about the team, so trying out something completely new and screwing it up a few times doesn't negatively affect anyone else.
- Do you not have to worry about finding someone of a similar skill level in the midst of a giant melee. You can just walk up to whoever you want to fight.
- Can you just sit back and watch other people of similar skill levels fight.
- Do you not have to worry about getting stabbed in the back/shot, so you can really focus on your technique.
- Can you have other people actively work on helping you with a certain combat style/technique. For example, asking someone to help you practice chambering, blocking, castoring, etc.

Siege and rage ball are great practice for large melees, but they don't teach you how to fight 1v1 and don't really let you try new techniques. Additionally, everyone is going all out there, so it's harder for very new players to get started. In duel they can ask for help, and MOST people will help them, or at least go easy on them.

The duel server was how I got good enough when I just started in order for Siege to even really be viable as practice. Before I practiced some in the duel server, siege was basically just me suiciding over and over.

I'm really not fond of this. Currently duel server is a good place to practice new techniques and combat styles, see how other people fight, or just to get some regular training in without any real impact on a scoreboard. With this, it's even more of an e-peen contest than battle K/D.  :(

Maybe make it so there are two types of duels, ranked and un-ranked?
this

most my time spent on duel server has been teaching some friends the basics (chambers/blocks etc), which you can't do in any other mode. but I like the idea of the ranking system too but it really should be separate. and only if the elo system actually works so it doesn't matter who you duel.

cRPG dueling is boring anyway, all the shit is way too slow, it's more of a game of patience than a match of skill

It's sometimes slow because most use the longest, slowest weapons there are.

But back to the topic:

I also vote for the idea of having both ranked and un-ranked duels. Personally the only reason I go to duels is to learn stuff, and if there's only ranked duels there it propably gets difficult to find someone to practice with.
