"Defend the flag" is the best game mod. I played it on 1866 and it was absolutely brilliant:
- Encourages team work and works very well even without voice communication.
- Fluent and dynamic: Unlike capture the flag, the location of the flag is constantly on the move. Tactics are flexible, escapes the siege mentality!
- Encourage short range engagement: INFANTRY ROLE! thinning out enemy numbers with archer rooftop sniping is nice, but infantry need to get to it and grab it. Cavalry cannot carry it either.
- Fast constant action: short respawn timers are possible. I don't know if there really was a check for this in 1866 but I always seemed to spawn away from the flag, so there is no sudden respawns of enemies into the action. Better spend the time gathering forces and tactically advancing to the objective than dead in spectator mode.
I think it will even work very nicely with the crpg multiplier system.
