Haha yea I was playing against you guys a bit last night when you had like 15 ppl on.

One thing I noticed was that you were really good at forming a line formation, marching together, doing your throwing volley and presenting a unified wall of spears, but once it's infiltrated there's not much support between your guys (and it will always be infiltrated).

Once people get in there, formation becomes more about people being able to support each other than just maintaining a line, and get 2-3 weapons on a single person quickly, and then be able to switch targets once that guy is either dead or backs off. Keeping together is still important, mostly cuz people get tempted to break off and chase the guys that maybe they've wounded, and are chasing 2 or 3 vs 1, but it's people bouncing back to the center once the initial enemy is no longer an immediate threat, and looking to help a teammate by hitting the enemies still in there in the back that's key.

Takes practice to get this down, it's an awareness instinct that needs to needs to be drilled into people, cuz it goes against the grain of normal c-rpg pubbie instinct. I find dirlling it in a private practice server is better than on normal battle, cuz people then can focus on their training and not worry about multis or k:d, plus you can do it over and over quickly without wasting time waiting minutes for all the delaying HX and hidden archers to die. We have a prac server if you're looking for one, let me know.

ugh man, why are you letting people use claymores and 2h swords? YOU ARE RUINING IT!

Will be cool if they add cut/pierce dmg on overheads or sideswings of spears with WSE soon.

We have 4 of them. I frown upon it, I really do... But we are keeping that number to a minimum to combat the largely favored 2h ez mode spam in the community that people press on our spearmen.

Sadly, a neccessary evil due to the fact that cRPG rewards spamming. Like the comment above states, if a 2h breaks through our lines, he has the full potential to "spin to win" and kill many of us before we can bring him down.
In hope that if we have an allied 2h present behind the safety of our shield wall, he can rear guard against any agressor that may come from behind or break through the lines, quickly.

I also hope they give spears an overhead stab motion.

A more interesting thought, shield bash... Now that would make my day. No more spamming our shields with AGI. Take that spammers, haha!

What would be even better if you could stab with your shield up. It should be a thing only spears / hoplites could do. And this is coming from cavalry... I don't think it would be too OP either, but a well deserved buff to the playstyle!

Have your 2h guys switch to great mauls. We've found weapons like 2h sword  aren't very useful for teamwork anyways. Greatmauls actually have the stopping power you need to hold up breakers once they get in. The mauler's short weapon works well in tight areas, unlike a claymore, and if he lands his swing it will obliterate him (and good chance for knockdown if he survives. The mauler threat also  forces the guy to stop bouncing and focus on the mauler, allowing other people to get weapons on him.

We always make our 2h guys go mauler when we're running together, Occicatan and KUTT have figured it out too. It's the ultimaye 2h support weapon, greatswords are for loners.

Not a bad idea at all. More like an Ajaxian if you think about it. Have to be very strong to wield one.

Take notice of the names that pop up in the vid..... ;D none of them from ATS.

Also, please don't pull an RS/ATS/any clan that started as hoplites and drift to 2h/pole spamming.

Hey now..  some of the original hoplites are still in ATS; we just don't play that class anymore (except for Civilian) because it became very difficult unless properly supported (hard to do 1v1 with only one attack direction).

I think its cool to see a revival of the hoplite formations; it has been a while. Glad to see the FKI is supporting you as well, perhaps I can get some folks from the 1stEPI to hop on board as well!  I will jump in on the fun with my hoplite character some time.

Keep it up!

Take care

Exactly what Turbo said. Overall, don't worry about what people say to/about you. You're going to take shit, no doubt. You're a young clan with lots of promise.

Your advantage lies in the fact that you're a clan with numbers and coordination. Individual skill is a lower priority with your clan, since you hit servers en masse. All the same, teamwork is imperative for the success of your shield walls.

Dedicate a rear and flank guard to your formation tactics. At least 30% of your numbers should comprise the rear guard. While it's all good to make a shield wall that is wide and looks cool with lots of people, all the other team needs to do is rock your flanks and it's over. Consider a wedge formation against horses as it reduces the vulnerability of your flank.

I'm seeing more pikes and long spears, which is nice, since you now have more options and variation in tactics. I saw a couple of two-handers last night, which I was a little sad to see, given your theme, but who am I to make those calls, right?

That said, I'm keeping an eye on you guys. It's really refreshing to see a clan that is intent on making a theme work, despite the jeers that go your way. I wish you guys the best in your clan, and I'll be happy to see the day when people go "Hoplite clan used to suck, but now they're pretty damn hard to beat" (or the more likely alternative "It's the fucking Hoplites again. Get ready for a x1 from those bundle of stickss")

See you guys on the battlefield!
