Makibishi

I don't have a model for it and I don't expect it to be added, but I long to hear the crying of people chasing me as they run over my ninja landmines and get themselves killed

Quote
Makibishi (igadama), sharp spiked objects that were used in feudal Japan to slow down pursuers and also were used in the defense of samurai fortifications. Makibashi were one of the items supposedly used by ninja. Iron makibishi were called tetsubishi while the makibishi made from the dried seed pod of the water chestnut formed a natural type of makibashi called tennenbishi. Both types of makibishi could penetrate the thin soles of the shoes such as the waraji sandals that were commonly worn in feudal Japan when the makibashi was dropped on the ground or planted in advance. Makibishi could be carried in a bag attached to a belt along with other commonly carried weapons and/or tools such as shuriken and kaginawa. Makibashi could be thrown like a shuriken and could also be used against a enemy on horseback

While I like the idea of more utility items, I don't see any way to balance these. The only things I see coming out of this is whine about unblockable damage, tons and tons of friendly fire from careless players, and a massive buff to runners.  :|

Make it so it only slows down instead of do damage, uless thrown.

Would be fun to create chokepoints and shape the battlefield around, but then you couldn't really explain dried seed pods penetrating mail/iron/plate boots.

That's why I don't expect to see it added, I fully admit they would buff kiting - although maybe less so for archers if they were a slot item - with a choice between less arrows or more arrows, I think we know what they'd go for.

but then you couldn't really explain dried seed pods penetrating mail/iron/plate boots.

You could explain metal spike balls though (as the image shows).

A thermal detonator eh?

Why not make them do damage to horses, they're very similar to caltrops.

I have been waiting for Caltrops for a long time..  they are anticav measures.. and fit neatly with the theme..
You could make them so that they can be easily cleared, by just picking them up..
Small dmg to foot, and a small stun/slowdown.

Is this more Shuriken? Or like Medieval tyre spikes, except without the tyres (Maybe for horses)

And why should we consider adding a Thermal detonator. Oh wait, because you're holding a Thermal detonator...

I think caltrops (or whatever "makibishi") would be a good idea.  Whether it hurts or just slows people down is up to others to debate, I just like the idea.  I think it would be good as horse traps too.  Also deployable stakes would be nice for archers (and again, either it just stops horses from riding through, or rears+damage, or just damages horse).

Let's not, and say we did. You appreciate the item, but not the Culture that made it. Pretty poor attitude.

If this is more Shuriken, I'm not for it being added, but if it's some sort of tyre spikes for calvary, then I'm all for it

People would prefer them to be called caltrops because we're more familiar with the name and the majority of players are more western themed than eastern themed...

If there is a western equivalent to the item then the english name will do fine. I doubt many of us speak japanese. It's why I wouldn't like this item have an arabian name.

Caltrops were already used in Roman times.
