Plate armour vs value

Plate armour needs a buff or a massive cost reduction and weight reduction.

Gothic Plate with Bevor is 12k more expensive than Heraldic Transitional Armour and the speed reduction that goes along with the Gothic is just extreme it really does fuck you over pretty bad. All those kicks to the groin would be fine is all that extra pain actually made you more resistant, but it just doesn't.

+3 Gothic Plate with Bevor with Plate Mittens is giving me an average in game survivability of 3-5 shots with 18str and 1 IF. With mail tabard with plate mitten I get 2-4.

Wiemar Helmet +3 with GPB +3 78 head armour one shotted by 6 power draw +3 Rus bow.

This little pissy pants cry is all here to just ask one question.

What is point of the top 4 sets of body armour? And what's the point of the serious helmets? The don't really have any benefits imo. The only thing that has a real effect on survivability is IF.

Do something, anything but it should stay how it is.

well dude,  just depends on your build.  If you have enough str,  it wont slow you down at all.  Just another mean of balancing imo.  imagine agi whores running around in plate ^^

I feel pretty slowed down in plate, strenght does not reduce the penalty, as far as I know.

It is intended to,  afaik.  May I ask for your agi,  athl,  str and armor you are sporting?

32/9 3 ath reinforced gothic plate with bevor.

As for the STR reduces weight penalty, I have doubts, read: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,34625.msg523688.html#msg523688

the purpose of the heaviest plate is to let you soak that little bit extra over the guy with less plate. is it cost effective? i guess not? but it isnt supposed to be. you arent supposed to be able to afford heavy plate 24/7 unless you are selling off loom points constantly or something. anyways, obligatory comment about str crutch.

With Matey on this one. No reason to give people even more reasons to wear the heaviest armor.

I find heavy armored opponents much easier to duel because of their slow movement and swingspeed, given I have enough damage to bite through that armor. If I dont have that damage however Im food because a single glance can mean my death easily.

The protection heavy armor grants against missiles, horsebumbs, low damage and backstabattempts makes gameplay for unaware people much more forgiving at the cost of reduced attackspeed and maneuverability. Low armor needs a lot more battlefield awareness but the reward is more offensive potential.

All in all I think armor works as intended. Maybe give armor more soak against cut damage cause it looks silly when a 1h sword slices through steel plating.

My point is that at the moment there is no real reason to wear the stuff. Your better off with cheaper gear. You survivability is much more dependant on the amount of IF you have than the number of points of armour you have.

Also being one shot at full health by a 6PD +3 Rus bow with 78 points of head armour is shit house, SHIT HOUSE! I would understand if it was a one off event but it happened to me 3 times, and twice to a Crossbow with out loomed bolts.

I'm just saying that it seems rather pointless. Nerf its attack power a tiny bit more and jack up it's D ffs.

Please go play in plate amour for a day or two and you will start to get what I'm talking about.

Anyway the discussion has kind of gone off what I really wanted to be about, so I'll try push it that direction again :|

Why is it in the game? What should it's purpose be?

I believe when people say that strength will make you not slow down, what they mean by this is that the str crutcher designed his build in such a way that the movement penalty doesn't matter to them because they are slow already.

As it is right now, heavy armor has only 1 purpose: forcing glances. Weak hits are noticeable weaker, however strong hits are for all intents and purposes identical. It would be nice to see a bit more of a difference between light and heavy armor. Perhaps make heavy armors more encumbering, but buff their protection.

That said, I think even now people can survive too many hits. SO, buff all weapon damage, then do the aforementioned change.
