Smite - MOBA 3rd Person

If your into MOBA's this might peek your interest. I recently got a beta invite to Smite which is a 3rd person over the back, much like warband MOBA. The game is similar to League of Legends, HoN, and Dota 1&2 expect not top down view. All of the skills are skill shots or AoE's of sort and I'm having a blast with the game. It's really fun.

The game is currently in Beta but you can buy the game and get access right away. I also think it comes with 2 beta invites to invite your friends with. Buying the game also give you all the gods to play from the get go.

Does anyone else play?

How is the character movement/skill handled? Same as other MOBA games (mouse clicks) or better?

Character movement is controlled via W,A,S,D. All skills are skill shots which are either lines or cones in front of you or AoE's which you choose the direction by facing that way with the mouse then tilting your camera up or down to adjust it's range.

There currently are only like 18 gods but I still enjoy it it's unique as since it's in 3rd person and someone ganks you from jungle and come up behind you you literally won't know they're there unless you turn around or they hit in the back.

My only complaint with the game is that the main source of Favor (ingame money like IP for league) is kinda slow and the majority comes from leveling up (total of 30 levels) which gives you 1k favor each level. Each god costs 5500 Favor or 200 gems (200 gems = 4$ cash).

I don't really mind it though since I enjoy the game and getting new gods is just kinda a bonus.

If anyone is interested in this game and would like to play I got an extra beta key for someone. I would appreciated it though if you actually had a interest in it and had past MOBA experience so it doesn't go to waste. If anyone wants to play with me sometime you can add me on steam 1acadia1.

So that's just another DOTA clone, though in 3D this time?

I honestly fail to see how this "genre" can back-up the hype around it. It's all the same towers+waves of mobs boredom all over again in different colors, what's so interesting about it?

Have to agree with Tot right here.

What's so entertaining in being limited only to 3 narrow paths, especially in 3D.

The genre isn't for everyone, if you don't like MOBA's you're not gonna like this. Simple as that. I'm not going to try to convince you it's awesome when it's clear you have no interest. It's similar to League, HoN, Dota 1&2.

I get that much, but aren't you bored already? It's fifth game using exactly same "mechanics" without any sort of major changes or improvements. In fact calling these "MOBA"-games a separate genre is like saying that Chessmaster 8000 and Fritz 14 are "chess genre". Those are the same game in different skins.

Just trying to understand this hype.

The difference between most of the games are that they all follow the same idea of 3 lanes, a jungle, turrets and a base but they all have there own gameplay. Theres a big difference between Dota 2 and League of Legends outside of the general ideas I listed.

Smite is similar yes but instead of being top down and having skills that are target able you got all skill shots and you can't see behind you and I enjoy that a lot more. I also like the jungle more.

Not really too much of a big fan of LoL, HoN tbh. But this being 3d makes it look a bit more..interesting so to speak. If i have barely any knowledge about this kind of games (not played much LoL, HoN or Dota 1-2) will i have trouble playing Smite?

You should be fine! I picked this up after playing maybe....10 total games of Dota 2 and some Dota in W3, and I hit the ground running! The fact that there's an option for auto purchasing and auto leveling makes Smite very noob friendly!
