Shielders and Swashbucklers, stand up

For too long we have been forgotten by the wayside.  Everyone discusses the balance issues of archers, 2h, cav, and polearms.  They talk and talk, they buff and nerf accordingly.  Hardly anyone discusses those that fight with one-armed weapons.  Up until now, that has been fine!  We avoid the nerf hammer but at the same time aren't improved in any way.  No one pays attention.  Everything was fine until NOW.

There is a recent patch to NA, also on EU I understand, that nerfs lol-stabs.  This nerf was long in coming, to balance long polearms and make it so they can't spin-poke you when you are right next to them, or spin-poke through a door or around a wall.  What they didn't tell you was that STABS/OVERHEADS WERE NERFED FOR EVERYONE INCLUDING 1h/shielders!!!

The one class deserving a buff to compete with all the other "big heroes" out there has been nerfed.  There is no good reason for this.  You may ask: Why should 1h get a spin thrust when the other do not?  Simple.  It allows us to hit enemies right in our face, as we should be able to.

Shielders excel at close-up combat.  However, even with the shortest weapons we will bounce if we are too close.  The only way around this is to turn slightly.  A 2h greatsword should not be able to thrust into someone right next to them.  A pike or spear should not be able to thrust into someone right next to them. A 1h sword SHOULD be able to.

Realism?  Yes that too.  It is more realistic to spin into a thrust or hit up close with a 1h weapon.  That's not important here though.

Balance is important.  1h is lacking in balance, and should be the king of up-close fighting.  The weapons should be more maneuverable than a long pole or 2h weapon, faster to turn while striking, and more useful up close.

Nerfing the spin speed while attacking for 1h weapons makes no sense.

That's what I have to say.  Now I want to hear what you have to say.

I as a 1hander think that 1h is perfectly fine.

Didn't cmp say he was adjusting the poke nerf to account for weapon length?

Couldn't say.
It would be a welcome move though!

Plus there might be a mechanic aimed at making hiltslashing and upclose combat with long weapons, esp. polearms, do less damage, an indirect buff to shielders, swashbucklers, and swashbucklers without a buckler which everyone calls swashbucklers, making them more effective at close combat compared to say, someone with a glaive or something  :D
Best ban reason ever:

I checked, the only Vagabond I found was Wolves_Vagabond_TheCruel, that guy is now unbanned. Ban reason was: "calling Zotte a cockswoggler".

If hilt slash gets nerfed, its a buff to 1h, cuz then long 2h/poles won't be as effective as short range (like they currently are), and 1h weps (or short 2h/pole) will have a big advantage at those ranges.

What cmp said earlier sounded great. Light and short weapons should be affected less by the spin nerf. Especially because the 1h stab is quite tricky to use already, this change would be most welcome.

Apart from that, no buffs are needed for 1h in general. Especially because otherwise more people will go swashbuckler which will make me less exquisite and classy.

I use 1handers without stabs mainly, doesn't affect me as much XD but on the overheads its slower, hits I normally get I miss. Need adjustment time then we'll see.

Was already said that the spin stab nerf will depend on length/weight or something like that

Tested it on duel server. Instantly noticed that the sweetspots for stabs have been made less harsh in compensation for the turn limit thingy. So doing a damaging thrust without the turn crap is possible now. Asked cmp about it, he confirmed (for all stabs, 1h, 2h, pole). Noone else noticed because they are busy with whining.

I noticed this as well, playing a dedicated longspearman is actually easier now
