Retirement and heirlooms are pretty much the one thing keeping the player base still here, now strat is down and you cant level grind there is really no aim left other than to retire and get heirlooms in the long run.

well thats exactly the point, I don't care for no "aim". And its totally Ok for me if you and others are "still here" because of retirement and heirlooms, but according to these posts here you are not the player base.

Obviously you aim to have fun and enjoy the game while doing it but ATM thats the end game.

Retiring is a ton of fun and it makes playing this game a ridikkulos amount give me sexy items. I rather enjoy changing my build around all the time as well ^_^.

Without heilooms this mod would be dead, It would be kinda boring if you would have reached your maximal potential at lvl 30.

I love the heirlooms, as stated above, it makes me feel somewhat good when i run around with my mw german and lordly heraldic mail with tabard, withstanding quite some arrows/hits, even tho i do not run around in the armor all the time, i enjoyed creating it.

Trying out new specs without the need to create new char is also sexy, i am usually retiring to try new spec/tweak out the one i play the most so it could fit my playstyle the most. And having an item improved in the process is just the cherry on top of a pie.
