A naval battle map, ships on water conected with wooden planks. That would be sexy
I suggested this to Lucius before but he said it would take "too much" time.  I replied that one plays cRPG precisely because one has "too much" time.  He did not refute the point.

Im working on two maps at the moment but I can start on a third. The first is an island castle (ruins) with a camp within the castle where the flag is. The second Im calling "Homestead" or "Homesteading" because its a Rocky forest battle map with a single cabin it. Based off the rocky mountains since I loved them so much. For the third Ill play with a pure Naval Combat map. I like taking time to make maps. My very first map, though it was a failure, took me three weeks. The revamp two+ weeks. Ive been able to cut a lot of time now that I know so much more. So like I said Ill work on this Naval map with just water and ships. It will take a while to make it right and im not sure how well recieved itll be. The only draw back will be is I think itll be archer heaven and cav hating. :P oh well. Might as well try.

Yeah on the note of maps getting faster to make each time around I pumped out the major ends of a map in like 6 hours today

A flat and very open terrain with just 3 little walls and a house (with invisible walls to prevent people from going on the roof) and a few trees

The best maps (imo) are the smaller ones with mostly flat terrain and a few houses (village / ruins).
Keep it simple and don't put 1000 trees at the outskirts of the map to make it look nice. Laggy maps are bad maps. So are hilly maps and mountain maps.

A good map should have variation. Something for each playstyle.
Make a poll (checkbox for each map) to see what people like, with pictures of all maps.

My favorite siege map is the small town with the side door in between 2 buildings, where the attackers scale a cliff. There are many ways to get around in that map, and the attackers/defenders aren't necessarily funneled to a particular place. Also zounds of great archer positions (though I am not archer)!  :D

I'm telling you to work on one thing at a time. Simple advice, but it works.

I would like a vertical siege map, some kind of tower. Unfortunately, i won't be able to make it myself anytime soon. An inverse castle, some kind of quarry, could be cool, too, where attackers start above, and the flag is at the bottom.

do you guys think an all "ships at sea" map would be a good battle map or a good siege map? I personally think it would be good for a siege due to the fact it would be choke-point heavy. I can make things like floating barrels or other rubbish to make less chokes and more flanking spots for battle so as to make it less archer heaven.

I have a side project I'm doing of a vertical siege map but it goes into the ground instead of up

Well imo it wouldnt be such of a archer heaven, unless your ships have roofs  :mrgreen:

You can always create bird's nests and platforms above for archers that wouldn't be a problem at all

if its a battle map (Ships at sea map), i want to try to steer away from archer friendly, since its already friendly for them (imo). If its a siege map I do want some archers nests and theres at least one ship that has an elevated platform on it, so thats easy enough.

So what would be perfered? Make it siege, or make it battle? Or both? :P since I can easily make a second after the first is done.
