How does the Lotto work?

chadz on one of my forums I was looking to install a Lotto system for Rep points. I was curious on how the system works. It is physically impossable to generate random numbers. That is why american lotto's use the ball system. I was curious if you tear a few thousand tickets and get a very large hat? Or do you just have a list and have CMP put it on the wall and play pin the tail on the millionaire? OR do you just pick the sexiest person (Can't be that I haven't won yet).

Well my assumption was that considering the lottery page just says "tickets" and has absolutely nothing else written about them, is that he has a system which randomly picks a ticket belonging to a player, just like a pulling a name out of a hat I guess, so the more names you have in the hat the higher the chance you'll get picked.

There is no system to act as a "hat". Unless he makes the few thousand tickets IRL there is no way to randomly choose. That is why I am so curious.

You can't generate true random numbers. No problem with generating pseudo-random numbers, though.

But it's not random... And I am wondering how he does this himself? Considering the CA state lottery requires a few hundred programmers to run there pseudo systems (I got a Uncle that works for em). I wana know so I can gank it

You just need one or two big prime numbers to generate "good-enough" pseudo-random number sequences. And certainly good enough for a simple lottery.

Besides nobody prevents you from using the 50th decimal of the processor's temperature, which is probably a good choice too.
