I recently saw an enormous list of statistics dating all the way back to the beginning of cRPG, which had forum visits and ingame/website activity. That could answer your question, but can't find it anymore.

There can be 20000000 unique CD keys registered but that's sure as hell not 20000000 unique CD keys CURRENTLY playing.

Correct me if im wrong but from what i remember from those activity charts (one could probably dig out the post about it i cant be arsed) there was around 3000 unique people joining on all of the crpg servers daily to play the mod. Im guessing the number droped (dayz, diablo 3 etc.) so it should be around 2000 players joining the servers daily

Only 9000? Heck I have 9. That would make for around 1000 players give or take people having a few more and a few less.
