As a sniper u could always just spot ppl. I spotted a spawn sunderer as well as about 20 NC and the next thing I know, I see a lightning, 2 prowlers, and a dozen TR inf come around the corner and kill all of them. Soooo many spot bonuses...

With many classes you can only play the "dumb" way.

I mean, what can you do with heavies, maxes and combat medics but fighting in groups ?

Engineer and infiltrator let you play the dumb and the clever way. The engineer has a lot of possibilities like being a support ammo carrier for a squad and placing turrets (what I tend to see as the dumb way to play it) or rather playing the vehicule game. The infiltrator can be just another sniper with a bolt action rifle 500m away from the action (kinda dumb), or a stealthy sabotager/flag capper or even a mobile rifleman.

With the LA sure you could fight in a squad just like a combat medic or a heavy, but you are not fit for that job. The only way to play the LA effectively is to take advantage of the terrain and the jetpack, trying to take enemies by surprise or capping points that may have seem unreachable. You can't play it properly without some thought.

Oh one thing to note, Infiltrators cannot use shotguns anymore.

Too bad :(

I'm going to specialize in LA as my infantry class. I try to never engage someone on a level surface if I can help it. In a big fight, no one watches an elevated flank. I made 10 cert points in 5 minutes by constantly moving and attacking at odd angles.

Oh Kafein, if you have spare SC buy the infantry starter pack, people say it's worth it since it's on discount, costs 2000 SC and contains 2 skins and 6 weapons.

Anyway, it seems that most of the time we were fighting VS. Don't know what the NC were doing, probably wanking at the warpgate. But the territory was pretty evenly split and the faction population on Woodman is 33% 33% 33%, which is incredibly balanced.

Me and my fellow 12 year old New Conglomgerate bretheran where doing what we always do. Piling into a galaxy and dieing in a firey plane crash long before reaching the area of combat because someone put a mountain or a tree in our pilots way. I have literally never gotten off a NG galaxy alive that i was not piloting.

...or you could stop sniping and play a real class.

Seriously, what is it with people's fascination with stealth mechanics and 'sniping'? What's the fun in playing an annoying lamer distanced from the game itself? Does it make people feel special or something?

Every freaking multiplayer game seems to have these types of mechanics (fps - sniping, mmo-ish stuff - stealth) and they always suck.

I like being a sniper because i come from more hardcore realism shooters. Being the average HA/LA that almost everyone plays, which is more of a call of duty type class where you sprint into combat and spray from the hip and die and then do it all again didnt appeal to me. I like the tactical challenge of going off alone and finding a good spot near an enemy position in the mountains or the trees, and taking people out while avoiding being caught by the enemy. And of course their is the marksmanship challenge that i also really enjoy (not only making extremly long range shots but almost always having to get the head shot to get the kill) from hardcore realism shooters, i dont like spraying basically.

Ya i dont actually help my team as much, but i dont really care. No matter what you do its insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Its not like CRPG where if your good you can carry your team and make a big difference. So i just do what i want and have fun.

Wanted to be Vanu, but all my mates already rushed to the puny Terran side, so I'm wearing red now as well.  :|

The game is fun so far, but I'm crashing to desktop randomly after anywhere from 5 to 40 minutes.

You know how in the movie banners they sort all the characters by having the main guy be in the middle and the rest are on the sides?

NC has had a solid hold on Waterson's Zurvan. I think I played through an entire day cycle. It's so much fun running from rooftop to rooftop, following and dropping down on people. I feel like freakin' Batman.

HA/LA doesn't have to be COD type play.
I've been playing with some ARMA II pals (there were only 3 of us, but once the others DL Planetside it'll be fun!)
We started off with a medic, and me and the sqaud leader being heavy assault (because of vehicles) we went out on patrol, and came across a Vannu base! Because the squad leader is an ARMA guy, we were using proper tactics and formations etc (the big one being don't let the medic go first!)
Despite being outnumbered by 3-5 to 1 (obviously it's hard to tell how many) we held a small room in the central base for about 15mins purely because we had voice chat with each other and ARMA training. Eventually, as ammo ran low, we were over run.
Our next foray was as a medic, an engi and a max unit. The max unit would soak damage while I repaired him and provided ammo. The medic watched the flanks ad provided healing to me if needed, or flanking against dug in enemies. We found a choke point where our back was to allied forces, and it was only possible to be attacked from the front and elevated right flank. As the Max soaked damage, it became obvious that there were about 8 enemies facing our front, and 2 enemies moving onto our flank every few minutes, to his creditm the medic shot them all before they could do damage. As the fire from the front became too fierce, we pulled into cover, fully healed and repaired (with a few grenade tosses to keep thme busy) I set down my ammo pack, then the max drew fire, the medic covered the flank and I set up the turret to provide more covering fire for the max. Eventually more Vannu scum spawned and peppered our posistion with grenades til the medic died, and we were ofc f*cked.
Our third encounter was at a base, where I take full pride in the fact that it was us 3 holding point A for 30mins on our own before reinforcements came that ensured the overall control of the area.

Obviously we did a lot more, like Sunderer patrols to bases and a tank patrol (which was really fucking fun)
But if you guys know anyone who's big into ARMA or real life military tactics, play planetside with them. You'll do better than a lot of clans out there before you have actual tactics!

Thumbs up for the TR infantry starter bundle ! The 2 round burst rifle for the combat medic is badass and works very well at all ranges. I also like the machine gun, it only has mags of 50 but reloads and fires very quickly. There's one weapon per type and I think I prefer the new one for all the classes.

Finally, whenever you can unlock the NV scope for your weapon, do it.

Oh shit, so you get the rifle I just spent 1000 SC buying for my medic :( Not sure if I'll get the infantry starter bundle now. And yes, like I said in one of my previous posts, SABR-13 is sick :D

More NC Engi and LA, I highly recommend the GD-7F. 1000 cert or 700 SC. It's strange as an NC weapon because of its high rate of fire, but it has the best TTK. It's perfect for LA where you need to quickly get position, get kills, and relocate before the enemy even thinks to look up.
