Being a good player is more than getting the final blow on dudes. It's also about de-horsing cav, protecting xbowmen who can't get to cover to reload, knocking over guys with your horse who are fighting your teammates, etc etc etc.

^On average similar people with similar play styles, builds & load-outs will have similar kdr's. The basis of my theory is that cav(normally good kdr) will be fighting against cav.

 Win loss does not address the class balance.

I have a bad K/D ratio, but I believe I overall do a heavy amount of damage. I focus on cav though, I dehorse a lot without killing the rider which isn't accounted too.

Better W:L ratio since it better reflects the actual battle effectiveness of the player for the team.

The formula should also contain a factor for shape of the day, last month or so.

And include some formula for classes. Shouldn't be always 50 50 cav on each side, since that would become more monotonous, but perhaps the balancer could pit the archers in one team, and all the cav in the other etc..

Or that pikemen and cav would have a tendency to end in opposite teams or so.

Just ideas, but in general I think there is room for improvement in the autobalancer.

Agreed.

It doesn't need to be complex.  Balance by class/skills (and if possible equipment you have set to spawn with), the player's level, and then if possible, by banner.

KD doesn't say who killed whom, which is pretty important.

That playstyle isnt worth much, its not hard to just find another horse the battlefield is usually filled with riderless horses. Or you can fight on foot and be about as effective as any other melee.
