The US has a fucking amazing navy and the aircraft carrier has three different defense weapons to shoot down missiles aimed at it. One is a long range missile another is a medium range barrage of smaller missiles and another is a massive gatling aimed by a computer that literally spits out a laser beam of lead to shoot down missiles at close range. Any one of these can shoot down a missile and they have several of these all over the ship. When it comes to military no one comes close to matching the US.

America is only good because they had the resources to powerhouse their way into the industrial manufacturing epicenter of the western world around the 20th century.  Now America has lost that title and is little more than a economic/scientific power... which is getting beaten on both those fronts by China and EU.

America has a pretty sweet and modern military, though... although the best American weapon (the aircraft carrier) is countered by this crazy accurate anti-ship missile that China developed sometime last year that can hit a moving target the size of a cruiser from 2,000 miles away.  So... yeah.

The chinese are adapting a doctrine using satellite guided missiles, submarines, and electronic warfare to really put the damper on the "American Way."

Which is parking aircraft carriers offshore third world nations and bombarding them with overwhelming force when they can't fight back.

And for the price of 1 carrier battle group you could probably send hundreds of these missiles at once to high priority targets, pretty much completely denying the seas ~2000 miles around China.

Whether or not everything is operational by the Chinese or theory crafting and propaganda.. well that's for the CIA to know I suppose.

Thinking that our naval and aviation superiority we enjoyed for the past 50 years is a guarantee in modern war is a mistake that could cost untold amounts of lives.

And honestly, the amount of money we pour into our navy is retarded.  The way of the future is flying death robots, and I applaud Obama for embracing drone strikes as much as he has.  We need to get those drones down to Mexico and blow up some motherfucking cartels too.

edit:  I hope you do realize this kind of invincible God-Wills-It attitude is what led to the debacles of Vietnam and Afghanistan.  Iraq was a tour de force of American blitzkireg but our political and ethno-cultural failures in understanding the region or having real strategy is a huge embarrassment, and whatever fraught peace has been achieved there was founded on ethnic cleansing.

A 5 billion dollar ship can get hit by a missile and sink just like any other ship or base.  You aren't going to stop a barrage of satellite guided missiles and next-generation diesel-electric submarines (that we can't detect) from eventually hitting their target.

During operation Iraqi Freedom and Desert Storm we used the missals to destroy Iraqi missal batteries with GPS coordinates from OUR MASSIVELY SUPERIOR SATALITE SYSTEM. The us Airforce controls satilite traffic and if you google are system we actually have Ground and Air launched (as well as sea launched) anti satalite missals. If WW3 came through we could destroy every other country's satalites and then systematically destroy Chinas infrastructure with Sub launched Tomhawks while the current attack subs have never been tracked by another country.
