Theres a free weekend starting at the end of this week, Thursday 24 May 2012 at 10AM Pacific Time. There will be a new update with "classic" mode to make the game more hardcore/more like RO1. Plus updates to realism mode and a new "action" mode to make it easier for cod/bf players. So 3 game modes depending on your preference

RO1 was a great realism game..ro2 launch was a bit too dumbed down and buggy. Classic mode makes the game play much better though and hopefully we can get a good playerbase with this GOTY edition

No idea. Originally they hinted at this summer..they are in second phase of alpha testing (http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=78421)

They have an area of TWI forums : http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/forumdisplay.php?f=93

Thats Rising Storm..there is a Vietnam one (In Country) and Iron Europe too. The guys who did Darkest Hour went and made their own game studio are are working on their own stand alone game. That probably won't be out for some years

about god damn time, this game has had a lot of potential but was so terrible when released, its so buggy and full of bullshit such as spawn protection instant death. I really thought the developers abandoned the game for good after the release.

Different game modes are a good idea but these game modes are also another reason that is stopping me from buying this game right now, it's going to water down the playerbase even more.

Arcade mode? fuck that shit, I was interested in getting RO2 just because there is some kind of progression and bonuses for playing over time, but you'll probably have tons of people playing classic mode where it doesn't mean shit and is basically just RO1 with better graphics, plus if I wanted to play RO1 I'd just go load that shit up and play it. This doesn't help my decision because I've read on alot of the forums the playerbase is already dwindling for RO2 with most popular servers containing many bots, not sure if want.

You can try for free this weekend (starting Thursday apparently), and there will probably be a discount

There are still people who will mostly play Realism mode rather than classic so you can get a benefit from progression and unlocks and stuff. You still get XP in classic, just you only get the benefit in Realism or Action. I will prefer Classic but realism was improved a lot too, so might go between the 2

Its not a carbon copy of RO1 btw, still lots of new stuff and RO1 is kinda old

Tbh after playing some of the 'free weekend' I'm not really bothered about buying it anymore, I don't think I'll play it much, I guess I am just burnt out on those kind of games nowadays, dunno, maybe I just thought it would be better than I was assuming, considering I was a big fan of RO1.

I was also a big fan of RO1, I bought RO2 and was completely disappointed upon release.

However, after this recent update and playing in realistic mode I'm greatly enjoying the game once again. 2 of my friends bought it and it's really fun.

My only complaint so far is the lack of maps....that's one thing I loved about RO1 all of the community maps.
