What polearms

Can swing left to right and right to left with a shield equiped?

And how does this look for a lancer who may leave his horse behind if needed (Siege)

Build looks good. Light lance is an ok melee weapon if you get dehorsed. Especially if you got an MW version. If you want for attack directions (without shield only of course), Double sided lance is worth a look. It is short, but couchable. Other options include war spear and military scythe, although those are not couchable, but longer than DSL.
