strategies for killing huddlecrabs

guys what are some strategies for killing huddlecrabs? i really would love to know because so far from playing its almost impossible to kill one. i always ask this in game and people always give responses like "LOL JUST KICK THEM". no, a good huddlecrab is not gonna get killed by a kick, and he'll just get a free hit on you for doing that. i know spamming is pretty good against huddlecrabs but im not a cheap ass so i dont do that.

what do you guys think?

When I fought shielders as a 2her, I'd swing at their right swing and turn into them, which worked decently well. If you do get a hit off, try to kick immediately afterwords in order to stagger [Beeper does this and I have to copy it eventually :|]. On my shielder, I noticed I can't block side attacks {I use a small shield}, which I could block as a manual blocker, so you could try to be next to them and swing.

How is spamming cheap?

If I'm using my glaive I can usually maneuver myself far enough to their left that i can to a right-left slash with a spin and get my attack to pass around their shield and into their back, kind of like wiggling a pike around a teammate.

You could also just get a shield breaker and break their shield in 2 hits. Generally if someone is turtling they are both new and bad. So they should have a pretty low shield skill. You can break their shields in seconds.

What are you saying, shield breakers? No, you're supposed to spin like Kelugarn mentionned because we're all circus fighters. Gosh, you're so retarded, Rusty.

Kick, then slash, then kick, then slash... oh yeah and back peddle. Also you can Achilles them with a throwing weapon, that's always a laugh.

If your 2h use a morninstar.

You don't even need a weapon with a bonus against shields, I've taken out loomed steel plated shields with a quarter staff in under 30 seconds.

They need to come very close to you in order to hit, especially if you have the movement speed superiority. Even as a shielder it is very easy to kick other shielders. The advantage you got with a 2h or pole is that you can block at the same time.

Most turtlers are new players that will fall for a long and short feint streak.

Or you can backpedal and spam until their shield breaks.

spamming is the easiest way to deal with it, they'll see their shield's health start to go down and they'll attack, works pretty much every time unless you're fighting someone with a steel shield or a buckler or something (i don't bother fighting people with steel shields)

As a flamberger i cant really spam shielders. If i hit and they just hold rmb though, u can be sure i wont be pausing before i press lmb again. I rage that i get "spammed" too but you can't be spammed unless you let them spam you.

There's the aggressive 1h's, who will just constantly right2left slash with "w" pressed forward. If you can kick, they usually back off and play more cautiously.

If you can't kick, then circle strafe away from their swing, so if they're right2left slashing then you circle left.

With a slow weapon like a flamberge it's usually safer to block the first 2 swings too, and then swing. It can catch them out.

With the guys who use feints really well, you can try some chambers perhaps. Again with slower weapons it's not usually worth it as they can feint into a slash before your chamber block attack actually hits them.

With the longer slower weapons, it's best to try and out reach them. Jumping backwards and slashing can work vs most 1hs. You have to watch out for those long 1hs tho, their range can be surprising.

Also if you're fighting a 1h that isnt face hugging you, but moving in and out of range, don't move forward into your attack when you're trying to "Interrupt" their attack, their forward momentum will bring them into your range and they will hopefully miss if you judged it right, and they're wide open to your slashing blade.

If im playing an alt i use a sword of war and morningstar. Morningstars work really well on breaking shields. Good armour killers too.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
backpedal + spam is the best solution for a new player :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't want to mention worthless poor peasant crabs, who are always very obvious. You don't need any "strategy" to kill them.

Maul will not work every time, since the overhead crash through animation is ALWAYS slower then 1h side swings. A good turtle will never lose to a mauler, if there is place to maneuver.
Feint attacks will only work as a surprise first attack. I am a fcking King of Feinting, so i know all about it. :) Sometimes, when i chain 4-5 feints - a turtle gets angry, and i might sneak a hit under its shield, but that is only for 1 vs 1. There is no time to feint and block for 2 min, if you are in a battle/siege.

Generally, i always lose to a good shield user when in closed space. In the open field - footwork is the key to victory! You need to confuse your target by rapid movements and unpredictable swing pattern and timing :) That is if you want it to be a "fair fight", otherwise - use the length of your weapon and spam from a safe distance. But that's for whores :)

EDIT:
P.S. Kicking is a joke :) Its is not a reliable tactics, rather a neat trick to be used from time to time. ( and don't BS me about it - i play long enough to know )
