2 handed or pole for my next gen?

I was gonna get a +1 weapon maybe when I retire. I'm definitely going the large weapon route and learning manual blocking. Which is better, or should I say easier to get the hang of....or are they both the same?

pole arm, @ handers are cry babies

Edit to go with your edit: I'd say Pole are a great choice if you are more into being an effective battle/support player, and 2 hander if you enjoy being able to fight in battle with a more individual sort of style with a quicker fluid duelist combat dynamic. Poles may be more versatile, but 2 handers still do very well in battle with the right set up. Also, being that you are trying to learn the ropes of the game, 2 hander is very friendly to newer players trying to get the hang of things. 2 handers also don't get stuck on walls or other objects nearly as much as polearms and in general are just easier to use in general. You wont be getting very many shield bonuses, but it's really not that big of a deal.

Polearms are more versatile. But I like 2h swords. You can be effective with both. Many polearms don't have side swings, though.

For learning the ropes, I'd say 2h is better. Once you get the hang of manual blocking a bit better and feel comfortable, you can explore polearms which are generally more varied, with some being poke oriented, others being bi-directional, and more being like 2h but longer and slower. But you know. Whatever you feel like.

I spent an hour on that dueling server and I don't know if manual blocking is my cup of tea.

Then you might want to choose another class. Or seek another ways of training yourself in melee combat. Warband singleplayer is a good way to start. Just make your settings to manual block, in case you still haven't. Other than that, go practice with less tough guys in duel servers. You may want to do it in Native since both opponents will have the same stats overall.

Screw that shit, I'll just stick with 1 handed. I get enough kills to have fun.

Then you should definetely try other classes. Go try cavalry. Many people are stupid or not concentrated enough to make the class OP and a total killwhore. It must be helluva fun as well.

I've seen you around, trying out a bunch of playstyles! Hope you're liking cRPG.

To the post:

I would simply go with polearms, they're the most versatile weapons on the battlefield. They range from duel-worthy weapons like the Warspear to full on support with the Pike. To me, there is no difference with ease of play when it comes to the two. For a player who wants to soak up numerous different styles of play, I would suggest polearms for the best experience.

EDIT: On manual blocking, I know it isn't appealing in any capacity. But once you can start exchanging blows with other players it's the single most enjoyable thing in Warband.

So you saying it isn't even worth it playing 1 hander/shield? I see plenty of badasses using it.

Shielders are plenty fun with the right build. Something like a steel shield + a pick/scimmy is absolutely deadly. What's more, most people wont have the patience to continuously hit your shield and block. Will you be cutting guys in half left and right? Probably not, but If you have your timing down, you can do very well!

Scimitars are the lamest, most cheap way to rack up kills as an onehander.

Picks are a close second.

NCS is a very good one though, I'd stick with it.
And have a backup Iberian mace or something for heavy armored people.

Sounds right up my alley.
