Communal Grounds Server
+1 THIS IF YOU LIKE THE IDEA...

People like the persist as their characters even when they are not in combat or something - hence why MMO's are so popular.  Crpg has added so much onto MB but to take it one step further and to bring more RPG and persistance to crpg, I think it would be great to have a special server which people could log into when they are not in a siege/battle/other server and "hang out" in a persistant environment.  It could be a medieval town that players can walk though and experience things and just "mill around".

** Things that could be done here include a market, a training area, a duels area, an inn, a church, etc. **

(All combat would be disabled on this server, except special exceptions which I explain below) This includes kicking possibly and perhaps even no collision so no one can block doors, etc other troll stuff

The Market
This could be a collection of buildings/tents etc that exhibit the same wares that the website offers.  Players could SEE the items before them on tables/racks, etc, and purchase them from the shops (this would sync with the crpg website of course). 
Perhaps players could even try out various weapons/armor in nearby designated areas to see if they like them before purchasing.

Training Areas
This would be an area near the market where players could test out new weapons or ones they are looking to buy, or just practice their skills on dummies.  A duel arena could be off of this area where dueling is enabled.  A jousting area would be available with dummies for cav to practice couching, archery area for archers, etc.

The Inn
Fact is, people like the mill around online even when they aren't in the middle of combat or something - hence why MMO's are so popular.  Much of this is the desire to just persist as their character and hang out with others.  The Inn would be that - a place to hang out and such .  Unfortunately MB has no sitting mechanic, but thats ok everyone can stand.  This would be all about the environment and the modeling - beer and ale and fireplaces and such - of course none of it could be interacted with but thats ok.  Its all for the effect.  People could just talk here - compare builds, talk about each others moms', recruit for clans, etc etc.

The Church
No, no rosaries.  This would be all legislative stuff - records, etc.  Here you could do much of the same things that the website allows you to do such as - changing your name, respeccing, assigning points to your build, retiring, etc.  If these things are not possible in this way - it could just be a nice RP thing to have in the town - what medieval town didnt have a church?

War Room? (STRAT MAP) - perhaps there could be a room (a tent or maybe inside the keep near this village) where there is a big map layed out on a table and when you "F" on it or something it opens up a window with an updated status of the Strategus map?  Battle schedules could be listed here as well....who knows?

OTHER - other ideas are welcome!

Some or much of this could be hard to code in...but I think even with some of the basic elements of this - this could be a really cool thing to add more persistance to CRPG and keep people around more even if they just feel like taking a 15 min break from combat.


Thoughts?

EDIT - I could see there being a minimal tick (4 exp/2 gold per minute) if people found that necessary, but personally I would vote NOT to have a tick at all.

Nice ideas but tbh i know most cRPG players only log in to go bash some skulls in an rape stuff then rage quit an go do something else  :lol: i doubt that you will find many people to hang out with on such a server since there is no xp or gold to be had or victims to crush  :)

I think something like persistent world for cRPG could be fun tho  :)

Probably somewhat right :)  I think you might get more people than you think though.  Of course, much of the conversation would be "i slept with your mom" and "my balls itch" but you might also get "hey, PLAYER_X, you just pwned me in the battle server - whats your build?  Can you teach me how to ____ better?"

It could happen :)

Perhaps there could be VERY small ticks?  Like 4 exp and 2 gold every min?

Sounds a lot like PW, neat idea though.

My two cents would be to add a 1x tick every minute after you've dueled to keep people interested and to make sure people don't just AFK leech.

But in my opinion, not only this way the OP wrote, but when it comes to character customization as well.

And I'm not talking about armors, more skills and variety to make yourself unique would be great.
Yeah, I know we have our limits and everything, but still, don't you agree?

PS: Also, how could I forget interactions: Taunts, stuff like sitting etc, would make this game awesome!  :)

The part in "red" would interest me the most!  I mean really interest me!!!

It might be tough for programmers to sync the website shop and this PW Market (maybe not).  It's a cool idea to be able to purchase items there... and I'm not against it.  At the same time, I find the website easy enough (at least I did after the first few hours in the game).

But to be able to try out... try on... different armors & weapons to see how you look... that'd be awesome!  Have all the weapons and armor available in multiple shops... for a decently cheap price compared to the cRPG Shop.  Maybe 10% of the Shop price or something (that's just a random figure really, but seems good).  Pay the cost, and you get to have the armor only while you are in this PW server.  Once you leave it is gone.  But it would allow you to see how sexy (or unsexy) you look in a particular armor configurations.  I'm tired of spending money on armors that I thought were cool looking... only to discover I look like a big gay boy!

Now of course, the weapons/armors you've purchased in the cRPG shop are available to you in this PW.  But you can still spend a small amount to try out armors & weapons.  Even go duel if you'd like.  But they disappear once you leave the PW server.  Basically they don't say to your cRPG website.  Don't know much about programming... but maybe it could work like when you pick up someones weapon in-game.  It's not yours... but you can use it for the time being.

Here's another feasible suggestion: run another server on Duel/deathmatch. Change the time/point limit to something ridiculously high as to prolong the game. This could also be a chance for map makers to flex their muscles and make some tasty large town/village/city/ wilderness maps.

 :D  Man... how amazing & convenient that would be!  To be able to try on outfits (an armor set) before you have to spend 10k plus gold on it.  It would have folk money... and even more importantly, a lot of headache and frustration.  Especially with folks Alts... seeing you can't resell your armor/weapons in Marketplace, where you'll only incur a slight loss.

I would probably never, ever use this but it's an interesting idea nonetheless.

It would be nice as a place for large community events, such as tournaments and such.

I think it's a great idea.

What if some established clans could design their own building and ask the mapmaker to implement it?

I do think such a town/place would be used, if not just like an irc for the players to hang out in.

Most of all I think it's a question if someone would volunteer to build the town. I don't think it would kill the servers to run such a map.

It's a beginning at least, then more features could be added later. cRPG players could also get to know each other in a different way than battle and irc.

What would be great though would be a chat system where you don't talk to everyone at the same time.

Area based, or just private :)

Some dev feel tempted?

Have you played PW before? This is something done in PW already, that the devs can use it if they ask nicely perhaps :)
