What a brilliant idea! I'd support the admin-approved horse name change system (A.A.H.N.C.S.).
Obviously, since you can't let the horse name itself (the ideal situation, but horses have trouble vocalising human languages, and we don't understand the subtleties of intonation and inflection in neighs and brays), we'd need some kind of horse-loving admin to look out for animal rights; to ensure that horses are named in such a way that reflects their quiet dignity and nobility. I think Braeden has volunteered, so that part is sorted!
And of course a 1000gold per name/rename system would be needed; 500 gold to pay for the naming ceremony, and 500 to compensate the horse for the stress of learning a new name.
When would this name come up? In the death-log?
"GORETOOTH =====> Alf the Horse"
Diomedes, who else but you could come up with this brilliant addition to the suggestion?! At first I thought your forum name was some kind of clichéd reference to one of those boring Trojan war heroes, but now I realise you are in fact Diomedes the giant, son of Ares, and owner of four man-eating horses!
Anyway, of course the names should come up in the death log (and be recorded in the server logs), for the following reasons:
1) The player who kills the most horses each month can then be awarded a gen3 heirloomed pike, and a grand title such as: 'Asshole'.
2) Horses that kill enough enemies become stronger - essentially they get a heirloom upgrade once they reach a certain quota of kills. Obviously this would have to be scaled according to the level of heirloom and type of horse.
Once they reach the fully heirloomed stage, pressing q to whistle them should only work 50% of the time, to reflect the fact that they have become arrogant and their success has gone to their heads.
3) A famous horse should get the same text when entering the server as owners of fiefs do. Not exactly the same of course - it should read 'horse *name*, slayer of 20 foes, has entered the battlefield'. Obviously this should replace any such text that the rider might normally receive.
I'm pleasantly surprised to find such an excellent suggestion in the suggestion area, well done OP!
