Nah, it's not that bad. Wonder why everybody keeps saying that. It's one of the longest 1h with a very nice cut dmg.
Besides, the advantage of the Shashka is that it's working better as 1h/shield weapon after dehorsing than the Arab Cav Sword.
Did I mention that it's long? A lot of shielder are playing Steel Pick atm. If played right, you can get them w/o being in their range very easily.

I really like the Shashka which is as MW even reasonable quick.
