Frank's Guide to rolling in dough

If your a new player you will soon feel the sting of upkeep and begin, like so many before you to curse its name.

What I'm going to offer you is some medicine that you will not want to take, but take it you will! For the power of Frank compels you!

What you need to do is RP an ultra light infantry charcter. You can go peasant or noble, shielder or pole arm but the most important thing is to keep your gear cheap, and your build viable.

For peasant pole arms I find 24/12 or 24/15 to be excellent. My preference is 24/12 because it gives you much more IF.

140 Pole arm WPF

For gear I like to roll anything lower than a nomad robe staying bellow 6.3 Kilograms lets you unleash all you ATH which makes that 4ath really quiet speedy.

So what I roll is, Leather Jerkin, Leather Glove or anything up mail gauntlets (but with armour this low its really not going to mater), boots bellow .8 KG.
As far as weapons go, Quarter Staff which is really pretty damn effective and super cheap. But you options are, Volouge, QStaff, Fauchard, Military Fork & last but not least Military Scythe.

Don't listen to anyone talking shit about these weapons. Sure there are much better weapons but you can still easily and repeatedly rip peoples heads off with these bad mother fuckers. Its all down to your skill and determination to chop people real good.

For shielder don't go above 4k cost with the weapon. I recommend Yanmaodao, Flanged Mace, Military Sickle, Light one handed battle axe, Iron Battle Axe. For shield Round Cav Shield. Same armour as the pole arm build.

Weapons anything up to the Heavy Bastard Sword. I recommend Bastard Sword, HBS, Bardiche, Dadao, Mallet, Goedendag. Armour same as above.

The basic idea is to try and keep your upkeep bellow 500 gold. I keep it bellow 200 with the pole arm build and can pull a hell of a lot of gold out of a gen. Once you complete a gen I recommend flogging the loom point you can get 650k.

Yeah, I play a Polearm build.  When I'm at x1, I basically play as a peasant.  I use the Fauchard when doing so.  I really like this weapon.  It's quite versatile.  It has great reach.  And you can use it with a shield, for even greater reach (and some protection).  Though it's damage is kind of low, but if you stay with a group and pick your strikes, you'll get some kills (or at least inflict several wounds).  And granted, you're in peasant mode trying to make money, so you're not going to have the best weapons for doing damage.  With that said, when using the Fauchard in 2-handed... I've gotten my share of kills.

I'm curious about the Military Scythe.  It's stats seem great.  Though I doubt you could use it in combination with a shield.  If so, I'm sure it'd be a fantastic peasant weapon as well.

It is useable with an shield, also i realy liked the bamboo spear as polearm( had mw one)

You don't have to do that to make 200k per gen, you can still use a weapon that has kill power. I love the practice sword, I want a +3 but you can do a whole lot better than it and still make a heap of money.

You don't even have to go naked, or keep the gear SUPER low tier to make money, but it helps a lot if your armor costs 5g to repair.  That said, you won't notice a big difference to survivability (because it won't be a "big" difference when a 12 PS king cuts you in the gut :D) but you WILL notice a big difference in your pocket vs very light mail armor such as the tourney armor I often see peasants in - that tourney armor is pretty bad too!

The plus side of using this strategy is that you will learn to block pretty quickly - because it's absolutely necessary that you do so to survive.  :P


No, you don't really get more practice by being a tincan, regardless of if you think so or not, it's a crutch and you will begin to rely on it subconsciously.


And get rid of the horse if you're going to complain about money!

Afford upkeep on good gear when you know how to use it, and possibly even buy extra loom points eventually(TM) if you do well with low tier gear.

Through all of the ticks in (your first) generation you stand to get a total of 436,800 gold.  That tells you how much goes out the window due to upkeep!

Sorry for the utter noobishness, but what's a loom and how do you repair your stuff, or even when do you know repairing is required...I just got this mod last night and I was drunk as shit. Might have bit off more than I can chew here...I thought it was just simple stat keeping and you could buy armor etc.

You have the option of Heirlooming an item you can use when you retire.  This improves an item by rank (0->1->2->3) or +1, +2, +3.  When an item breaks, it's basically -1 until you repair it.  Repairing is done  automatically by default, if you've got the gold.  To help newer players, upkeep is disabled on your first generation until the mid 20's or until you respec.

People typically buy/sell the opportunity to heirloom an item, you will get more money from upgrading an in-demand item from +2 to +3, than it costs to buy most +1 items, so it's win-win.
