how much is upkeep on soldiers above 49 ?

I figure everyone goes around with 49 soldiers and good gear, hell, if i go around with 80 soldiers and medium gear i'll win. It's all about the cavalry baby.

But anyway, how much is that upkeep pls ?

thx, corsair.

All I know is yes, 49 troops and under is free. 49+ are all paid for hourly. I've honestly been too lazy to see the incremental increase in cost per additional troop. Also, I noticed something strange, and that was paying the same upkeep for troops outside a fief as inside a fief. Not sure if anyone else has noticed that.

troop upkeep for heroes:
ceil((pow($troops, 1.03) * 1.8 - 100)/24)
troop upkeep for locations:
ceil((pow($troops, 1.02) * 1 - 100)/24)

I got to thinking last night, and I'm glad someone brought this up, but it seems to me that troop upkeep is pretty hefty, don't you think?

Don't get me wrong here, I know the purpose of it, but I would love to see more large-scale battles of 3,000+ men fighting it out, but unless you have a very hefty gold flow coming in, it's rough to maintain 2,000-4,000 between even 2-3 fiefs.

Yeah it would be kinda cool  if we get strategus statistics, so we can play it more like Native.

cRPG character for battle stats, strategus party for other campaign stats (CHA/INT)  - improve your trading, reduce taxes, move speed, leadership... etc.

Single-player campaign, IMHO, would make such a perfect online translation.

As is, I think it's fine.  Yeah, some alliances can field and sustain several large forces, but I like the smaller scale conflicts myself.

For your spreadsheets:

Personal upkeep where "F" contains troop count:
=roundup((((F2^1.03) * 1.8) - 100) / 24)

Fief upkeep on same:
=roundup((((F2^ 1.02) * 1) - 100)/24)

Number of personal troops you should have for a given upkeep where "J" contains the upkeep you want to pay:
=rounddown((((J2 * 24) + 100) / 1.8)^(1/1.03))

In a fief:
=rounddown(((J2 * 24) + 100)^(1/1.02))

I think those are all accurate.

1000 troops should be costing you 89g per hour (or 44g per hour in a fief).

Bear in mind that the EU side of the map has tons of huge, unmolested caravans ferrying goods back and forth.  They could be bringing in 200k per day or more (100 accounts each making 24 goods per day and selling them for 80 profit each... "80" potentially being a low estimate).

Well-equipped troops (mail shirts, nordic warlord helmets, mail gauntlets, broad one handed battle axes, long spears, that level of stuff) costs about 32k per 100 troops to equip.  DRZ's 1500 man armies may be in the 750k neighborhood because they use better gear than I calculated for.  If they are really bringing in 200k per day, though, then they can make an army like that every 4 days (upkeep should be 3,624g/day).

Is all of that still accurate? I was in Nelag castle paying 20g an hour for my troops, left, and was still paying 20g an hour outside of the castle. Maybe Nelag is just bugged?

Yeah I dunno.  20g per hour should be 272 personal troops (max).

Maybe chadz changed the formulas and didn't tell anyone.  Note that playing cRPG generates some gold so if you were playing during those times, that would throw off the numbers.

Your troops actually have to be in the fief to get the dicount.  Sitting in the fief with the troops still on your character does not count

Partial agreement here. Really, my issue is that you don't necessarily have a good transition. What about all those extra Int skills that makes Int very valuable? Healing skills, like First Aid, that really have no purpose?

It's just not perfect. Maybe something similar could work, but... why? I'd rather not penalize players in combat for other skills. Plus, since Strategus doesn't last forever where SP does, the Prestige factor for troop counts doesn't play in as strongly either.

I'd be more willing to accept Charisma and Intell. if the point pool for spending on them was split from the physical traits to prevent min-max'ing super-specialization.

So I put Slamz's formulas into a spread sheet with some different troop amounts for people who are too lazy to do it themselves, you can download it here.

It has 50 men increments up until a 500 man army, then changes to 100 men increments up until a 5000 man army.

Rhalzo's already in Chaos' cooler older brother clan, he's fine riding his motorcycle around in a leather jacket smoking cigarettes with GIRLS, our little treehouse isn't his speed anymore.
