And you didn't get what I meant.
A throwing knife or throwing axe is usually heavier than a normal axe at the tip/head. It also has a certain length.
Because of these things it can rotate when flying and it will mostly hit with the tip/head.
A sword on the other head has much weight in the knob to balance the weight of the blade. Othewise you would be exhausted very fast when swinging it and they would all be unbalanced. A good sword is usually balance. Due to it's form and the weight it would probably not rotate when you throw it and it will most of the time not hit with it's tip. Take a sword and try it out. There is a chance that you hit your target with the tip, but I don't know how high the chance is regarding the percentage.
What you can do in Assassin's Creed with a 2h weapon to throw it is total crap
