I've been reliably informed that the military fork and not left/right swing, only stab and over head.

If so, why?

Because the sharp bits are at the front and not the sides. Plus in general, spear like polearms would be used in groups during warfare and you wouldnt really have much room to be swinging it around left and right. Forward thrust and an overhead swing was about as good as you would get when everyone standing next to you was also swinging one of em around.

Then why is the Battle fork only a 2 way?  its got spikey bits that can easily be used in a 4 way.

Spikey bits are aimed upwards and downwards , but in native it has 4-swings but for balance and variation reasons this weapon was made and 2 - swing but it's still a very very very good weapon.

Why would you use it over the awlpike?

It costs only 900 less, has 1 less pierce, 1 more speed, 23 less length and lighter.

It can be used with a shield and has a pierce damage overhead.

The problem is even if you are number 1 in NA you are still only number 467 in EU or the worst in AUS(number 17)

Forking is standard practice in the military. It's tradition. If it moves, it must be forked. Only peasants swing left and right, true warriors always fork in the classical sense of the word. The overhead is just there to throw forked matter over your shoulder. It's a classic deforking move. Taleworlds may have misunderstood this movement. Fork and defork, page 1 of the field combat manual, issue #457. This manual has only 1 page, but it's all you need as a soldier.

Fork on, soldier!
This game isn't about being skillful as much as its about saying things in general chat that enrage people who then go to murder you but in their rage they make dumb mistakes which gets them killed.

The reason you use this wep is because its one slot. It's not a good weapon but because It does only take one slot its very versatile. very useful for a pole/crossbowman. Well one that thinks the short spear just isn't that great besides when used on a hoplite char

Why would you use it over the awlpike?
Because awlpike is extremely gay, and fork is insanely brutal.
