What horse is better to heirloom?
It seems that item costs over 32000 make you lose money (upkeep).

Any opinions?

I'd go Courser just because you'd gain the most from heirlooming that horse as opposed to a Rouncey, steppe or desert.
You could still use it quite a bit even though Courser is quite pricey but when you did bring it out it'll make a difference.

If you're worried about cash though I'd go with the rouncey, but an heirloomed courser would be so nice to have if you had the cash to support it for when you wanted to use it.

Depends on what class do you use. If horse archer, go for steppe horse. If horse crossbowman, go for Palfrey.

If you are going to be a light cavalry, Courser/Sarranid horse OR palfrey

If you are going to be a heavy cav, just get one of those heavies

I ran around on a champion courser the other day and it's pretty damn impressive.

It's so fast it's not even funny anymore. I was 1 hitting everyone with my 1hander and I took out a horse archer by catching up with him and slash him from his horse.

Yes, but how to pay for it. I will hve a horse that i mostly never use, thats the problem. Thats why im not sure about courser.

I have a Heavy Rouncey I made during the heirloom theft.  At the time, horses were stupidly expensive and it was thought that the heirloom value also increased the upkeep costs.  So I decided a looming a Rouncey would ensure I could afford to ride.

But a Heavy Rouncey is outclassed by a Heavy Courser in every category except price, and it shows when engaging other cav.  I've surprised some archers with how many arrows my little pony will take, but with a faster horse I might have dodged them in the first place.

I wouldn't worry about being able to afford riding every round because there are some maps you will not want to be on a horse.

Even then, a courser does put a damper on how much stuff you can upkeep with it. For instance, with a courser, heavy lance, sarranid cavalry sword, heather shield (the brown one, like that copycat Gorath uses), haubergeon, flat topped helmet, mail chausses and mittens I make small, but really small, amounts of money over quite a long time period (to iron out randomness). I do use a horse on almost all maps except the town clusterfuck ones where it doesn't make any sense, however. With a rouncey you can be a lot more liberal with your gear since you have 10K extra available to equip yourself.

Just for the sake of information.

I ride a heavy destrier most of time (except city clusterfuck like said above)

The rest of my gear consist of:

Full Light strange armor + leather gloves + MC long hafted blade.

So with that setup upkeep balance is clearly based on luck... If the horse break too often I lose money, if he doesn't my gold stack goes up!
