Teamspeak vs Ventrilo: FIGHT

For those of you who own TS servers, what provider do you use and how long have you used them?

I'm pondering the switch.  I've run a Vent server for probably 7 years years and while TS has moved ahead and added a lot of cool features, Vent is almost unchanged from what it was when I started using them.

Things I still like about Vent:
Better voice quality (maybe most of you TS people just use shitty codexes, though, I dunno)

Things I like about TS:
Everything else about the client is superior

I use NationVoice for Vent but they don't do Teamspeak servers so I'd need recommendations on a new provider.
Crush your enemies; see them driven before you; hear the lamentations of their women.

That honestly about sums it up.

TS seems more reliable in my experience, easier to set up/use (lots of win7 issues with vent) and the voice quality is "acceptable" - especially considering the reduced latency, which while not a big deal for most of us, can cause considerable lag for some.

Personally I would set up a ventrilo server if I were to set a voice server up, despite the fact that I personally prefer TeamSpeak, but it would really depend on what I was going to be using it for.

Ventrilo was better than Teamspeak a few years ago but in my opinion Teamspeak has become a lot better.

voice quality is still subpar from every experience I've had.  Maybe its just lazy and/or cheap hosts/admins that arent selecting a worthwhile codec, but  for a program whose purpose is voice communication it still sounds like shit

Personally, I like Mumble/Murmur the best.  It's lightweight, has overlay options, has excellent voice quality, and has almost no lag at all.

Use Mumble, it shows who's talking in-game and has plugin support for positional voice in-game and other neat stuff.

You can turn the overlay on, off, or have only people talking show up.  It's pretty neat.

Teamspeak for its versatility, vent does what it does well, teamspeak just has more features a clan could use.

Teamspeak and Ventrilo are both shit, use Mumble.

It scales codec by bandwith allowing people with total crap connections hear robot voices instead of not being able to hear anything and by default it does not sound as terrible as most Vent/TS servers with their horrible codecs thanks to that. Mumble is also 100% free to host unlike TS/Vent, which probably is the reason it's in general the cheapest voip software to rent servers for. Mumble also has the crapton of features TeamSpeak has (might not have all and might have more, no exact clue)

But to be honest I really don't give a crap what voip software I'm using, I just prefer Mumble.

Having used all three, mumble's overlay is far superior.

That said, having used all three, one downside of mumble is that you can't set individual users' volumes client side.  If someone is too loud, they have to fix it.  You can adjust your output and input volumes, but can't do it individually, like with teamspeak.

edit: though of course you can mute people client side.

I get a decent amount of lag with TS that I do not ever have in vent. I am not sure why
