The Raid of Uslum -- A Letter Home

The following is a letter sent by a fleeing individual from Uslum, the latest of the Hospitaller's holy raid campaign.

Dear Isbeth,

I have survived the battle of Uslum, though you may have heard otherwise. Myself and what's left of my regiment are heading to a nearby fief. We hear there isn't war there. I don't know what happened Isbeth, we had struck land with a pricey purchase from those in the North prior to this war starting. Somehow or another, they have mistaken us for the enemy. Though, I can say we did not go down without a fight, we lost a lot of men, good men out there Isbeth. I don't know when I will be home, if I am going to make it home. Winter is setting in here in the north, so this may slow enemy advancement. They are raiding the Northern territories town by town, despite where the civilian's allegiance lies. If you support those of the Green banner, you are their enemy.

Isbeth, there is something you should know. In the battle of Uslum, I have been severed from my arm. A large blade, one I have never seen before of its kind, came crushing through a separation in the formation I was in. It struck me at the hinge my arm, the surgeons had no choice but to remove it in its entirety. I do not want to worry you though, when I return home Isbeth, with my earnings from the army I will have enough for us to purchase the land you have looked at. The Smiths will be more than laiden with gold for the land. Despite my injury, I will help you and our sons to plow the fields and we will raise a beautiful farm there my love.

As I said before, and my writer runs low of ink, I am following the river through the snow with a few of my men that managed to escape. As we cast a glance over our shoulder, the flames of Uslum still radiate the sky and an eerie glow resonates off of the clouds above. I will be home soon Isbeth, kiss my sons for me. As this letter dries I press my lips to this letter for you my dear. I will see you soon, and if not, then one day I shall see you in the fields of heaven.

It saddens me to have to kill so many young valorous KUTT but the supporters of the green machine must be shown the error in their ways and hopefully others will see this and give up their alliance and understand that we will destroy all that oppose.

Dear Isbeth,

I know that it has only been four days since I last wrote you, but I was not able to contain the news much longer. Our Uniate has lost Uslum, and it is official that war reigns in the North. Most civilians are scrambling for the Northern seaboard while others head west, further inland and away from the sieges. The Uniate, what is left of it, has taken refuge in Tismirr, but we'll soon be stalking back into the battlefield in hopes to interrupt trade caravans or intercept messengers from the Steppes.

I hear the thundering of hooves and the sharpening of blades from sun up to sun down and throughout the night Isbeth, the Greens are preparing for a full-frontal battle. I hope the Reds to the South are proud of themselves for what they've accomplished, for it will soon be nothing but a flash in their eyes as they lay dying. Kiss the boys for my Isbeth, I'm going back into the battlefield with what strength I have left in this arm, I will bring honor to our name.
