Rain is bad for any long range projectile. Just a fact.
And  the freaking fog and sandstorm limit your sight in a way that effectively makes any archer go melee.

That's life.

-1: life is life, rain is rain.
but +1 to the suggestion to move the server away from England and have a little less rounds with rain/snow.
Hermit Status report : feeling a little social. Threatening melee my old friends with a comeback. Greasing the string of his old longbow. Carving certain names into the tips of his arrows...

throwing and bow is also effected by rain ofc they would be, its psychics of the game which r to replacate real life dont like it ask god to stop the rain.

The OP is not asking to remove the rain itself, only the nerfing affect it has on crossbows
(since they are already nerfed from their original damage)

Why do you say it only affects crossbows? Until someone knowledgeable proves this I'm just assuming that it also affects archers and cavalry like it says somewhere in the game texts iirc.

No, they're not. Not from what I've heard, at least

its psychics of the game which r to replacate real life dont like it ask god to stop the rain.

Don't mind the rain per se, just mind that only crossbows are negatively effected by it.

i merely wish fog was not so damn so opaque. There is a keen difference between immersion and disadvantage when other people seem to not be affected by it

(archers and horsemen who seem to find you around corners even though you have not the slightest clue where they are)

on the other hand it may be a clever idea to keep far distance fog on most of the time to help low performance computers

and to the topic +1, an enviromental effect should only be improving the game experience for us

Look up the the Battle of Crécy which explains how rain causes crossbows strings to absorb moisture. When crossbow strings
(In medieval times) absorbed the water it would cause them to become slack and therefore render them less effective or useless.

Historically bowstrings were made from sinew, intestine, or hair and would then be treated with beeswax making them resistant to moisture.

The problem with realism is that Crossbow suffers from all possible IRL penalties - crossbow is the only weapon that can malfunction - you get hit and your bolt gets stuck and bye bye you can't use your crossbow anymore. At the same time, it does not have realistic advantages (it should not cost any wpf at all to be precise, and should have much longer range).

Realism? Sure, let's see how it would look like. How about someones sword shattering? How about that? How would some 2H guy feel if he hits someone 3x and upon manual block his sword breaks or his axe gets cut in two after attempting to manual block a bardiche?
How about I run over you with a Charger and you instantly die because I trampled your spine?
How about your arrows do zero damage to me because of my good armor?
How about you breaking neck when falling off the horse?
How about people who run up the hill get fatigued by the time they reach me, which lowers their combat efficiency?
How about my crossbow having real actual realistic range?

I'm addressing serious balance issue here. Not making historical simulation which this game is not.

Tai Feng is right. Whether or not crossbows were affected by rain in real life is a moot point. This isn't real life; it's a game. Preventing a  player from being able to play the game because of a random weather effect is silly. So yes, I'm in favour of removing the rain effect on crossbows.

(In medieval times) absorbed the water it would cause them to become slack and therefore render them less effective or useless.

Which has more to do with genius French commanders not letting crossbowmen take off the string and keep it dry until they got to the battlefield. The English of course didn't unwrap their bows until they needed to fire them.

Ingame, of course, bows are practically untouched by rain, crossbows are hugely penalized.

Away with the rain effect!

It does not have any use for gameexperience, but is only nerved. It does also not have any balancing advantage.(just another luck-based factor)

Also rename to siegecrossbow. This fits much better into medival RPG.

Just to add another thing related to crossbows which wasn't mentioned so far:

There seems to be a random occurrence of a crossbow losing precision during the battle. The reticule becomes wider for no apparent reason and stays that way until battle is over (I think). Then it's fine again.
