North American Rageball Championship

The Game:

     8 vs 8
All games are played on soccer pitch map
     1 Ranged player per team
First to ten or highest score at map change wins
If scores are tied at map change it goes to overtime

         Overtime Rules:
                  First to score wins
                  5 minute time limit
If there is no score at the end of those 5 minutes then the game is a tie

Teams:
      Must field 11 players
May replace with players not on any other active roster
Teams must have the same banner
Teams must wear similar armor (subject to change)
      45 armor limit pre-loom
Goalies are immune to the armor limit
1 Goalie per team, must be designated before the start of a match
1 Ranged player (Archer, thrower, crossbow) per team, must be designated before the start of a match

Test season:
6 games over 3 weeks will be the regular season
      1 game playoffs
      1 game for the championship
Scheduling will be done when enough teams have signed up and is subject to change

An explanation on the armor limit:
If a team has a set of armor they like to wear yet an individual on the team has it heirloomed which brings it over the 45 armor limit he is still allowed to wear that style of armor to maintain his teams uniform.

Reply with your team roster if you are interested in running with this test season

Why no ranged if I may ask? What's to stop stupidly high athletic builds then?

The great majority of people playing rageball play without shields because they break and do not come back until killed. It also has the potential to be too effective of a defensive weapon due to the ball being sent flying when you're hit.

If it's really desired for range to be implemented it's not as if the rule can't be change.

As to the second part of your question about athletic builds being stopped that's what a good defense and goalie is for, not to mention your athletics is already penalized carrying the ball.

Ah, I personally believe ranged is a needed part of a good defense, though my experience with the game mode is limited. Everyone should at least have the slot to bring a stack of rocks.

There should be a "goalkeeper" who is the only one allowed to have a range weapon.

Reguarding  Athletics whoring it, I tested this.  Made a STF char with 12 or 13 athletics and did some rageball.  Much to my dismay I found that the penalty for carrying the ball was enough that even the slower players caught up with me.  I was much more effective with my main that has 6 athletics and actually had powerstrike and hitpoints.

The goalie being allowed to have a ranged weapon is something I can agree with.

I can see bows and xbows being disallowed, but throwing rocks are a major part of the game. Without the ranged, it is something different. No use in most builds then. Just load up all your armor and biggest baddest weapon since nobody can hit you with ranged, and that athletic build's pathetic swipes constantly glances off your uber armor, never forcing the ball to pop out.
That just leaves a scrum....

Could it be possible to make a map that is a smaller soccer pitch and do smaller groups so there will be more teams (Small Playerbase) such as a 5v5 or 7v7 as well as a cost to participate and a prize pool of either cash or looms would be an incentive

I don't think a rock would do much against that uber armor. I bring a hunting crossbow, or a light crossbow if it's raining. They're fast enough, and do just enough damage to force a fumble.

I just don't like the idea of 120+ wpf and half of my weapon master points being wasted. If you're worried about players just going kill crazy, ranged is the last thing you should be excluding with the way cRPG is right now.

That's why there in an armor limit for all players except the designated goalie.

Second, after some discussion it's not unreasonable to have a designated ranged (Archer, thrower, crossbow) player on each team, only one though.

Third: A test entry fee of 10k per player, meaning 110k per team, for a prize pot for first, second and third place. Third place will be decided with an alternate game between the losers of the playoff games.

designated ranged sounds fair. Good idea.

Is it Main characters only, or are alts allowed? Any rule in people changing builds between games (respecs, a new STF every week, etc)?
