Shields

Here goes, probably gone be hated a bit for saying this.

I have been playing a gen as a dedicated shield breaker. Weapon of choice was "Long Bardiche" (it actually is fun and pretty good all around style).
What I have noticed is that normal shielders with 7 7 5 5 5 builds actually survive amazingly many hits from a 45 cut weapon with shield breaking and 9 power strike.
I'm not saying it is overpowered vs me obviously it is not since I still break them pretty fast, but if it takes me up to 5-8 hits to break a shield they are virtually immune to anything that doesn't have a shield breaker and really high damage number on the weapon.

Now people might actually want the shield mechanics to be that way and then that is all fine and good.

I personally did see shield more to break in 2 to 3 hits with a heavy blow like that. And that good shields should only last for about 10-15 hits from swords.

Please try to not rage too much and write how you see shields for you.

Shields are annoying, but in no way are they OP. (And that's coming from a pike user. Pike hitting a shield = thrust stun = dead piker)

They reduce weapon speed and add a good bit of weight to the user, not to mention in order to use a shield the player has to sacrifice a large number of points that could be used elsewhere.

I have 6 shield skill and any shield breaking weapon breaks any shield I use (minus steel obviously) in 3, max 4 hits. Shields are useless in duels because anyone who can manual block will break it in 30 seconds or so, even without a shield breaking weapon.

Pretty sure they don't reduce weapon speed.

Nop.

Also, shields are fine. I really like them because they serve as an indicator of whether they guy is shit or not. Any decent player will put the shield on his back when faced with a shieldbreaker (assuming 1v1).

Not sure what you've been fighting, but I always run with a 77555 build (have done that 6 or so gens now) and mainly use a knightly heater shield. That shield breaks in 2-3 hits from a GLB, so I always put it away when I'm fighting someone with a GLB, GLA or any of the other shieldbreakers.
Even a steel shield will break pretty fast (<10 hits).

The problem is even if you are number 1 in NA you are still only number 467 in EU or the worst in AUS(number 17)

The poor guy must have faced a 13 shield skill Trolololol alt...
I've never played a server where people split up as much or as often as on EU1.  No wonder range is having a field day.

I think shield should lower attack speed more, especially starting with difficulty 4, too many shieldspammers atm.

P.s. Tzar i love your jugs.

Shields don't lower attack speed.

Also, shields aren't that great. With a shield you get perfect blocking from your front arc before it breaks and the ability to block ranged.

To get that you lose movement speed (especially when blocking) and slower blocks. If you aren't using a shield you actually block faster than if you have a shield. Also shields can be stunned.

This. I do crush a few shields even with my light lance (on foot). They are far from undestructable.

Shields don't lower attack speed.

they add weight, which lowers wpf, lowering your attack speed

A loss of 8 wpf isn't going to lower your swing speed to ANY noticeable amount. Especially since WPF doesn't have much of an effect on the swing speed of fast weapons.

So technically it does, but in practice, it doesn't.

Weight from shield does not affect wpf

Yes it does, so does the weapon length and weight affect the speed.
