Repair costs (equation)?

Anyone figured out how the cost of repairs is generated? Is it a fixed percentage of cost or some other random concoction?

yeah, allways i m loosing my golds... Bcs the server said that repairs bla bla bla 2310 lost gold :S What the hell is that?

So I'm wearing a studded leather coat, and a khegrit bow and a black hood. 1200 gold upkeep. That's quite ludicrous.

Outrageously high repair costs that cannot be maintained. I lost 4,000 gold in 15 minutes of playing. If I play for a few hours I will lose all my gold, so what is the point? I might as well run around naked now with one long distance weapon, since other options do not seem possible to maintain in the long run.

EDIT

10 minutes after making the post above my stats page now reflects losting an additional 6,000 gold, and I was not even in the game! So the total cost to play for 15 minutes was 10,000 gold!

My cuir bouilli gets hit by a peasant hatchet and maybe a arrow or 2 (Not bodkin) I throw 2 javelins. Immediately after round 2500 gold to repair cuir bouilli. 700 gold to repair javelins. WTF is that shit about. I had to pay half what the armor and javelins cost to repair em once. And 1 round later. Bye bye repairs and bye bye gold because same damage already there. Ive gone from semi-rich heavy infantry to poor old man with no money and shittty equipment

Wow, now that you mention it ... i have lost 6k gold and have only logged in once and stood there naked for a second before respeccing. Nude with a pitchfork is the new black armor!

I don't really understand the whole "repair cost" thing. I've never played as a tank-type character (I've switched builds frequently, and deleted alot of characters. I'm also newish to this), yet I've managed to have alot of fun playing regardless.

I've never bemoaned the existance of tincans. So what, they played more than me and have more armor and shit? I still found the game fun. What is the purpose of repair costs? What does it possibly do to make the game more fun? How does making their internet-lives more difficult make this game more fun for me (or them)? I doesn't understand  :(

This is almost a non issue for me atm, btw. I'm low level, with only a gambeson, helmet, boar spear, and sheild. It's not like I'm a sneaky tank-lover of some sort who only looks out for himself.

Alas I am rather unimportant and have almost no influence on what happens in the world of cRPG.

I know its high enough that 2 hours of playing I made good money but even my spike mace(2000 cost) repairs for around 450, I'd hate to see what my twice heirloomed katana (11k cost) or twice heirloomed flamberge(18k cost) would repair for, I'm sure its more than I'll ever want to lose in one round(or for leaving a server)

hell I'm afraid to use my twice heirloomed bar mace and mail, but no big deal just have to adjust
