What's the combat like?  The MMO standard (wow-esque)?
And I should be nice or polite to anyone.... why exactly?

It's pretty much like wow if you're just talking about the combat.  Eventually, in the distant future, if you want a MMO that plays like Mount and Blade, I would suggest TERA.  However it won't release until later in the year.

I was skeptical about Rift and was not too excited about it, but after spending time playing it over beta I can really say it's quite unique and incredibly fun for me.  Going to be playing it quite a bit.

EDIT: Due to 15+ Hour queue times since launch we have decided to move to the Emberlord-PvP US server.  This game already has over 1 million players and it's only Head Start.  The demand for this game is pretty impressive so far.

If you have like a half an hour or more, check this channel, I think it's pretty good information about the game + gameplay and stuff ^^ Definitly worth seeing all his RIFT videos if you wanna make an opinion about the game a bit.

combat is the same bull shit in it. You jam the number line while right clicking doing nothing that even remotely resembles skill

The only vaguely fun MMO i have found is DDO which unfortunately suffers from a chronic LACK OF CONTENT due to the 20 level cap

I'm actually THOROUGHLY enjoying Global Agenda, which is kind of an MMOFPS-esque game.  Apart from just doing the PvE missions (which play like co-op FPS levels) and the objective team based PvP (think tribes renegades and team fortress had a love child) I'm getting ready to participate in the new season of the global conquest game.  Big hex map, and you fight for territory control with different assets on different hexes (bases, resources, etc).

Reminds me of a sci-fi strategus.

Anyways, it's cheap and no sub-fees so I'd definately recommend giving it a go if you have a few bucks and are tired of the same MMO style combat of number smashing.  I'm playing a medic and having a blast swapping between killin peeps and healin mah teammates.  :)

That game is utter shit too. Have fun enjoying it for a week then throwing it in the trash to never be played again.

I'm on week 2 already actually.
Always been an FPS gamer more than an MMO gamer, so in the regard that I don't have to do any gay "Go here and fetch this to give to that douche over there" quest bullshittery I'm quite happy with the little genre-esque mashup they have going.  I get my quick pvp fix with objective based combat, and warband gives me my deathmatch fix.  Jetpacks and pulse rifles from GA, Axes and swords from WB.  Works out pretty well imo.  Between the two of em I got all bases covered.
And I should be nice or polite to anyone.... why exactly?

GA gets very repetitive. Played it for a month at launch, was fun, we actually managed to take over a large piece of area on one of the maps.
But gets very boring.

I heard they have changed it quite a lot since the last time I played though, 1 AvA map, sandstorm, "open" world, etc... So can't really tell how it is now. Might aswell try it again, I already have it bought.

There's upcoming Tera or for free vindictus if you love hack & slash games online.

Sadly vindictus is blocked for europe for now and it doesn't have much content but it's nice to have installed to make some dungeon runs then go play some other game cause it's free anyway :)

I have to admit that I googled vindictus and the trailer at least gives a good impression of the game (seeing the gameplay footage in the trailer vs cinematics).  Might d/l it for the hell of it, kind of looks like D2 but with better graphics.

This is one of the new classes, at the end of the clip you may be :O in real http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hkungn2R4OU&feature=related it's pretty awesome sadly damn nexon hasn't released it for europe yet and using a proxy to play on NA would be useless since to go for dungeons, ecc you need to group and if you lag everyone lags.

I played Vindictus thru proxy but yeah, like Vexus said, it's very laggy. The whole game is instanced and can get very repetitive. Fun combat though and nice physics.
