A guide to stay equalized in gear upkeep (Updated)

Hi there, I have been trying to find out how expensive my gear can be to be equalized. I did a lot of Excel number crunching and decided to share my findings with you. I will not post all the math mumbojumbo just the results.

Static number used in calculations are

Break chance = 3% (This is not static and will be explained at the end of this guide)
Payment on break = 7%

I did calculations for people that always want to use the same gear and for people that want to use two separate sets of gear depending on multiplier.

1 SET

If you just always want to use one SET.

Total "true" gold cost of items 46875

2 SETS

Set 1                 Set 2
==1x    23810   >=2x   69940
<=2x    35714   >=3x   92262
<=3x    41667   >=4x   113095
<=4x    44643   >=5x   119048
<=5x    46875      

Your brain hurts? Here is an example.

You want to use Set 1 on multiplier "1x and 2x" and Set 2 on "3x 4x and 5x"

Then you look at line two there and see your Set 1 can be worth 35714 gold and Set 2 can be worth 92262 gold.

On to finding the "true" gold value of your gear

Heir-loom items use the same value as none heir-loomed items.

Items use the BUY value from the store.

There are two exceptions.

First exception is that bolts and arrows have 11% instead of the standard 3% break chance. (This I am not 100% sure on but they do break more and the 11% is a likely candidate).

So you need to multiply the stores cost on those by 3.67 (367%). (I do hope some archers will test this).

Second exception are your weapons. You pay from 11% downwards depending on your weapons proficiency level. Tears of Destiny states that this number is around 2.5% at 140 wpf.

All melee weapons use the highest of one of the three categories (1h,2h or poles) to calculate break chance.

Rule of thumb to use is to multiply the stores price by 0.8 (80%) to get an estimate on its true value.

I did try to make this as simple as humanly possible. Hopefully this will help both new and old players to pick a set of gear that is sustainable.

Well you win more then you loose

This guide is only true for the average Joe.

Plus your true value is lower then 54k. You have a lot of that gold in weapons if I remember correctly.

awsome idea, this should be stickied, and torben, you win more then the average player, so you can have better equipment. I think for the average player, it is between 30 and 35k, i can have a bit more, but if you don't have a winning factor in you, that's about it.

I read somewhere that the chance to break goes up every minute of the round. Is that still true? Does it go up to max 4% or does it get 4% per minute or what?

When you brag about with how much gear you can win money, just don't forget that heirloomed items have an higher value yet they don't cost more to upkeep. That's why I could say I only lose 1k per hour of playing with 83k gear, but I only pay for 76k roughly (and I just found out that a +1 heavy lance is cheaper than a regular one). If we count in the wpf reduction for weapons, I'm in the 65k range. And this isn't completely accurate since there are a few maps I won't spawn with my horse.

No but you made me look and found a post from WaltF4 that shows it to be 3%. I am updating the guide to compensate. Also the weapons true value math has an error in it and I will fix that also.

Please post here or send me a message if those numbers have been changed even more. I do believe the guide is now current.

So when my 15192 gold German Greatsword breaks it should cost (15192 x 0,0007) 10,6 gold to repair? I really think you are mixing up percentages and the value you actually use in the calculation. Repair cost of 7% means multiply item value by 0.07, which is what it actually is.

You sure like things to be correct Fixed it was just going to write 0.07 and 7% but yeah it came out 0.07%
