What is the point of raiding?

From what I've seen on the forums, currently you win no gold from a raid and only gain items, but seeing as those items are likley to be used up in the defence of the village, what is there to gain from raids?

Village pop doesn't fight in raids. Only troops does. So if a village have 0 troops you win and take all the pop equip :).
Unfortunatly you will have only 1 hour to escape from the counterattack of the other clan (that can also reinforce the village until 19 hours before the battle).
I'm also sure many clans don't store equip in village or just store peasant shit, and use the best equip in lords armies. So atm raids are not really doable against active clans IMHO

Not being able to get gold makes it pretty pointless.

You should be able to take gold from anyone when you attack and win...I never understood the reasoning behind it (other than there must be a bug with gold, and they don't want it to get out of hand like strat 2.0).

Also, did they actually fix it so that you get an hour to run away after a battle before being attacked again?  Or is that only for village raids?

I always thought it was pretty pointless to "ambush" other people like a robbery (basically un-armed armies), because by the time your battle starts in 24 hours, it's very easy for them to have an actual army waiting for your battle to finish.

@CC420

If you did take peoples gold the whole trading system would go to hell pretty quick and all those AFK players would be piggy banks to roll every couple days. Small clans would get boned, one player would have to be a bank for all the rest and everyone would contantly have to return to where ever that "bank" was to deposit gold. Also if you think its hard to bounce back from loosing a battle now imagine how hard it would be if you lost EVERYTHING. A lot of people would loose a battle and quit.

Also on the point about unarmed raiding parties: If I have 55 troops and attack a guy with 20 creates of stuff and 0 troops, I can run at near enough full speed once the battle is over. If I had, had no equipment after my chaos raid I would have escaped not once but twice! The grip of chaos and floged all that stuff for a pretty penny.

5 cudles or swords 55 rouncys and bam you are a speed machine.
Fammi un pompino!

I think I have ball cancer in my right nut :(
Good news everybody! It's not nut cancer :)
Bad news everybody, I got dumped :(

I know it isn't fair to take another players gold in a game like this.

But I also think it isn't fair if the attacker/defender really has no profitability for fighting battles.

That being said:

Maybe if the actual battle generated gold, maybe based on a % of the gold value of the players killed on either team. Also make it so there is no bonus for winning, its based purely on performance regardless of outcome.

Like a battle commission but it only goes to the commander of the battle. Since we can make gold doing everything EXCEPT what strat is really meant for (battles) I think the dev team should take a close look at rewarding commanders of battles on both sides.

Here is my suggestion for it:

Each enemy player killed in battle generates: 1g for every 10 levels up to 30, and +1 gold for each level after 30. Plus 5% of the gears value on the enemy. So a level 30 player with 500g worth of stuff is worth 28 gold to the commander when killed. An army of 1500 men that are all killed with an average of 500g worth of gear and level 30 would be worth 42,000.

The gold generated only goes to the commander, from that gold the commander can easily pay mercenaries to fight, and maintain battle strength after victory. The loser keeps their gold, plus the amount they earned in the battle making recovery faster.

The main idea of this is once clans are at battle strength, it wouldn't be a super huge loss if an entire army is destroyed, also winning a tough victory won't take months to recover.

Keep in mind these numbers can be tweaked to be higher or lower, but I really think what this game is missing is a direct reward for fighting battles.
