And from a non-tactical point of view, mercs aren't supposed to hold territory, they are supposed to travel and fight for whoever the highest bidder is.  Maybe having a home base village would make sense, but you're not really mercs if you control fiefs and have vassals...you're a faction/kingdom like everyone else then.

You can control a fief and make a merc clan work. As soon as you start intervening (too openly) in politics and other people's wars without a contract, you lose any claim of neutrality, and yes in that case might as well be another faction/kingdom.

Sinze strategus 2 there are no point in being Mercs because the payment is still bugged. the most important thing in strat have allways been bugged. Second with 1 huge alliance that we have now basically hole EU ruins the game. and making 2 superpowers aint gonna fix it.


but the funny thing is even tho they are 100 times bigger then us combines or more, they HIDE in castles. and dont attack. They have to wait for all clans to join in. ZERG ftw.

You'd have to send someone to collect payments in person.  Paying people for battles who aren't near you on the map would never work because people would be able to dump money to someone tucked away safely on the other side of the map.  That way if you were about to be attacked right after a battle the money would be safe.  But that's a moot point because money isn't lootable after you win a battle (which is retarded, it should be like equipment and you get a percentage of their money when you defeat them).

Oberyn - yes a merc clan can control fiefs and territory and still be a merc clan.  When you start having large expanses of land however, you basically become a kingdom/faction yourself (whether you stay neutral or not).  You are going to have people attack you eventually or pick at your borders, which will create enemies and force you to defend yourself.  When you are attacking fiefs and defending them for your own ends, not because someone's paying you, then you aren't being a merc, you are being a land owner.

Anyway strategus is soon dead if not more ppl start playing again. even the mighty UIF didn't have more then 70 % full roster today. and what 13 defenders or so.

AI buy script is totally fucked up, buying 5000 head wrappings, a total of 10.000 hats. and then light xbows that is impossible to kill anything with.
And when there is 10 % defending (aka 90 defender slots) then what is the point. i guess UIF going to play alone. they just have to take out our last fiefs. then im off this forum and this game.
