What would be the optimal armor for a pure archer character? (24/15)

Depends - 4.5-5 weight armor if you are reliant on speed and wpf would be light leather, sarranid armor, and nomad robe are all good.

If you can afford a small wpf reduction and still shoot fine (most people can), you might want to try one of the 9.5 armors for significantly betetr survivability like lamellar and cavalry robes.

For gloves - mail mittens or leather gloves
Hats- none, or something .5 weight or less
boots, under 1 lb so rus cavalry light leather, etc.

Definitely wear a hat. Nordic Leather is what i use. A hat isn't going to save your hide every time, but it will keep you from getting one-shot by onehanders, especially with 24STR.

Would light strange armor also be viable? it only weighs 0.3 more than studded leather (and for me personally L Strange armor is the only decent looking armor around that weight)

And thanks for all the other answers

light & medium helms provide very slim to NO protection from being 1 shot by hornbow using bodkins or rus/long bow using cut arrows.  Its just needless reduction in your WPF

Still, a cheap helmet may save you from an unexpected melee hit.

I think you should go naked. Also, lose the bow. It'll only encumber you.

Naked is best for pure pure archery. You only want to be carrying your bow and arrows. And don't bother with ironflesh or powerstrike. In fact, only put points in powerdraw, athletics, and weapon master.
