I think that this mod is too grindy and "serious". I would like to make it more accessible for new players. My ideas are:

1) remove upkeep but:

- give 50k gold for every new main (non STF) per key
- make high tear and fugly gear (black armour, plate charger and the likes) really unappealing for the most people stat wise. Make heavy armour heavier, armored horses even slower and less maneuverable.

2) remove stat bonuses from loomed gear (unique look should be only advantage of having loomed gear)

3) remove marketplace

4) since the removal of marketplace and upkeep would make gold more or less useless make it useful, very useful in Strategus. Also XP gain from playing public mod should have very little impact on Strategus.

c-rpg gold = important in strategus, not important in c-rpg
c-rpg XP = not important in strategus, important in c-rpg

Also I would like the hard cap at 100 million XP at lvl 36 and for every 100k mil XP over that players get free lvl 36 alt char (like a clone but with clean stats page).

lvl 31 8 mil XP
lvl 32 16 mil XP
lvl 33 24 mil XP
lvl 34 36 mil XP
lvl 35 64 mil XP
lvl 36 100 mil XP

Please comment on what you think is bad and tell me why you think my ideas are bad :)

I would love to go back to the old system (Probably one of the few that still wants it) because it was more fun.

It had it's problems but with the new wpf system we have, banner balance, new retirement and level limit could make it work out just fine.

And imho there should be a limit on how many loom points a character can have making the marketplace useful to get money and get rid of old loomed items you no longer need not just for the flavor of the month.

I actually like this. Might not completely agree with everything, but this could work. Well, for the no upkeep thingy to work, heavier armors would need to be SEVERELY nerfed.

I agree, I don't want to see plate everywhere like it was pre upkeep patch.

Basically the whole idea is to let new players to play this mod without mindless grind. But the question remains, is this community playing this mod because of the grind or they genuinely like the game?

For last month and a half I have fully leveled and equipped char yet I play more than ever before. If majority ain't thinking the same as me, change I proposed might actually kill the mod.

Tbh I wouldn't remove grind completely, I would just remove it from public c-rpg and make it casual and fun. Grind can stay in Strategus for all I care.

Some probably don't like lvl 36 idea. I know most of you think that would create even bigger difference between veterans and new players. Yeah that would happen but only for first few weeks. After that others will catch-up with veterans because most of them wouldn't be interested in retirement just to get gold items in return. Currently there are many players who still retire regularly and that's why the difference in levels between average player and veteran is actually higher now than it would be after my proposal.

Also max level could be at 50 or even 25 mil XP, I would actually like it to be set lower but I'm not sure do devs like it (they love to torture us after all). And I think that my clone-alt idea is really awesome (no false modesty here). It will give people leveled and equipped high level free chars to mess around. I think that veteran players deserve that.

But why I'm proposing such high max lvls? It's simple, I want to see more different builds and faster game speed. But before that I fear STR/AGI balance have to be fixed by removing free wpf and buffing wm.

Pre upkeep patch difference between veterans and average players was actually more than 12 levels, please don't forget that ;)

Actually the only reason why I'm not playing Merc mod is the fact that very few people play that mod and their community is kinda dull. Otherwise it's a great mod, I didn't have to level anything there just pick predefined man at arms and fun can start.

And no, I'm not having problems with upkeep, but I still don't like the idea of upkeep. I always earn money with my ~45k worth of gear because I win a lot :)

And I usually play on EU1 where I have less impact on outcome. If I played the whole day with lowlives on less populated servers I would earn 50k gold per day :D

The only idea i liked was giving new players 50k gold.

No upkeep - wtf.

Nerf heavy armour - so now the best armour that 99% of ppl will wear is medium, and that becomes the armour that everyone wears. I can see in the future some threads being made on how medium armour should be buffed or weapon dmg reduced cos "no1 wears heavy armour cos it's too crap now". I think I wore plate for 2 rounds this generation as im trying 24/15 and its just too slow for flamberge. Plate/Hvy armour is already crap enough.

Remove Stat bonuses -The stat bonuses arent massive right now anyway so I dont think id take it too hard. Being able to loom items and get a bonus is what makes me retire tho tbh. Otherwise id be lvl 35 by now.

Remove marketplace - people like to trade and it saves people a lot of time and effort when they want to change class and trade thier looms for something more class specific.

Crpg gold should be good in strat but not crpg xp? Then we are back to naked leechers running round with clubs to maximise gold production. Crpg gold should have no impact on strat imo. Crpg xp having an impact would be character levels, but this is a roleplaying mod and strat is part of it.

This is a rpg and in rpg's the people that played longer always have some advantage over newer players, even if it's just level (but in this mod new players can get to a similar level straight away with stf).

All the stuff like looming and wearing the gear you want is what makes it fun for me.

Concerning loomed gear: I would love to see stat improvements removed, but then the devs would have to add a different and cooler/better looks for every fucking item, and that 3 times. I dont think this will happen...

Let them get straight into the game and have a chance instead of having to spend their first 10 or so hours as a peasant.  Imagine how many more people would start to play and love this game if their first action was to kill something, instead of just getting 1 hit by a random arrow or lanced by spawn raping cav!

As for everything else - agree with RandomDude.  No to it all :D

I agree with Leshma, except the Loom bonus removal: it gives only a small advantage to veterans I believe, not enough to be unbalancing. It also is a incentive to retire your character, thus making the battlefield more varied when it comes to character levels.

Any way to make this game more casual is welcome - and by casual I do not mean dumb down the mechanics, just make it less demanding when it comes to catching up with the vets (time investment). I enjoy playing this Mod a lot, but when i look at the time required to spend in this game to get close to what vets have right now, it's a bit overwhelming (and discouraging).

And just to repeat what I've said already several times: proper item balancing would remove the need for an upkeep.

Simply for the fact that plate armour almost didn't hinder movement or speed at all, it was just hard to fight in over prolonged periods of time, because it got pretty warm in their. A full suit of armour weighed less than the gear carried by a modern day marine. Knowing this, I'd hate seeing plated men and horses moving around at super slow motion speeds.

I disagree with the majority of what you've said. As far as the game being "grindy" I agree that it is a little to "grindy". The heirloom system is a great thing. It gives the players that put in the time a small advantage, but I have an idea to make it less of a grind from 1-31.

For each time you retire you gain a 10% xp bonus, rather than a 3% xp bonus and instead of capping the bonus at gen 16 (15 retirements) cap it at gen 11 (10 retirements)
I don't feel that leveling twice as fast a generation 1 character is unreasonable.

This is just an idea, and I know it doesn't cover all of the issues the OP touched on, but it helps with the "grind" factor.
